Hey all, the decision for interview is coming tomorrow! So when we receive the notification we can let each other know!

BTW how many here have applied to UW for Jan 2009?

Do post your stats, so others can compare!

Mine are here
GPA: 3.08
Lots of pharmacy experience, >4 years
ECs and a good LOR from a pharmacist

Good Luck with the interivew invites!

>4 years of experience! 😱 i feel bummed out already..

gpa: 3.3
90 hrs hospital volunteering
student council stuff,
~ 40 hours pharmacy volunteering
1 month job-shadowing hospital pharmacists
research last summer

not much pharmacy related experience..i hope they can see the effort i've put into at least finding a job-shadowing opportunity which was the hardest thing ever..

Well look at it this way, I don't have research experience so I guess I lack at that aspect, moreover my GPA is a major concern for me:scared:! I don't think they look at experience that much... but lets hope for the best... can't wait for tomorrow!

shunsistoesis, you have applied to U of T as well, ryte, I saw it in the Uof T thread as well! I didn't apply this year... got tired of hearing the same thing twice!!!!😡

lol, so true, don't know why they delay it till June, what sucks is that they don't even give a reason for rejection😡

good luck pharmaddict! btw, there are so FEEEWWW canadians around here! 🙁
true that! maybe we need to build a better and larger network by telling friends to join!

well uoft has exams till may ryte ( know it from some friends who go there), good luck

i actually remember reading somewhere else on sdn that about 300 ppl applied to UW last year...but that's an unbelievably low number, especially when they've taken in 92 students. that's like a 31% acceptance rate! so i dunno..somehow they wouldn't disclose admission statistics, even when i called them last summer to ask about their program

UW, is this the University of Washington in seattle? and do they have spring admission?

Yeah it's an unbelievalbe number as well!! But I guess they are waiting for enough stats to come out with a number, moreover, I doubt if a lot of students appplied for the UW program, as it's new!! Well if it's a small number then it's good for us... more chances of getting in.... moreover it's the co-op program that helps!

Hey, do you guys know if UW is sending the interview decisions via email or regular mail? Do any of you know what time it will be sent? lol, I am just a little anxious

it'll be by email tmr..not sure of the specific time lol

hey guys! i got an interview!!!! soooooo happy i started tearing up too..hahaha. it was sent out to your email just half hour ago..good luck!!

YEEEEEEEEEESSSS

I also got an interview,

now the only thing I am scared about is my organic mark, wrote the exam on Wednesday didn't do as good as I would have liked but am doing fairly well all other courses

I just got an interview too!

But I'm probably not going to go because I already got into UW optometry. So there will be an extra interview out for someone that's still waiting!

congrats on your invites!! oh and drug dealer, i don't think your grades would be as important at this point cuz now the major determinants for your acceptance are the interview and RC/WT. just don't fail =P

Finally I got something that I wanted!!!😀 I got an interview invite as well!😎Congrats to all those who got their invites as well, we deserve a pat on our backs, ryte?👍

Good Luck with exams and see you all there if we come on the same day!

BTW when is your interview? Mine is on May 2, 2008! Am I the first one to go for the interview😱.... I am freaking out!!! Got to focus!

Also I think they are taking in 120 students and interviewing 240 students, that's a fairly good chance, you either get in or not!!!

Hey guys,

I got an interview too!!!! (very happy).

GPA 3.3ish UofT(evil place)
3rd year
Extra-Curric.:hospital volunteer, pharmacy shadowing, school stuff/community volunteer stuff

I am a little curious about the interview. Does anyone know what type of questions the panel will ask?(30min is a long time)Has anyone talked to students that got an interview last year, by any chance?

Also, how is everyone going to prepare for it?

guys..i'm studying for an anatomy test tomorrow and i feel like i'll fail it..there's so friggin much! and i'm doing so poorly in this course in general..do you think that as long as i keep my cumulative gpa the same it'll be ok if i get like a 70 (or even a C+) in the course? there's soo much to memorize..😱😱😱😱😱

i dont think waterloo cares much about marks cuz i have 3.3 gpa and lots of volunteering except for pharmacy and i got rejected

i received an interview as well. it was a huge surprise considering I was waiting for a letter to come in the mail.

best of luck in your future applications!

it's probably not a myth, but like a job interview, one for a professional school means that you will have the first 5-10 minutes to leave the deepest impression for interviewer - i heard that it's during these few minutes that the employer/admissions committee gets an idea whether you should be accepted. Now that they've asked to "share any experience" with them during these 5-10 minutes, they are likely going to try to fish out a quality we possess that is valued in pharmacy practice, based on what we choose to talk about. of course they're going to say the topic can be about anything, but it's a chance to show them your personality in a way. so i guess, try to talk about an experience that you are BOTH passionate about AND shows a valuable trait in you that will convince the committee you will succeed in a pharmacy career. i.e. leadership

Congratulations guys on getting interviews!

so is this the second time you guys are applying to Waterloo?
For me it is, no interview the first time

best of luck in your future applications!

Hey Shunsistoesis, thanks for the great info! Yeah I think the major focus for the interview is to let your personality shine and convince them that your are the right choice for their school and profession. Think of it as you're your own sales person. To start, make a list of your strengths and goals which you would like to achieve in both the short term and long term.

I'll stop right now... will need some sleep... didn't sleep because of exam today! I am tired of exams!

I'll come back with more!

hmm..so any more ideas on how to prepare for interviews?
i hate ut's exam sched..still have exams the week after my interview ..sigh

oh and if you guys know anyone that applied (and got an interview) invite them to SDN so we can keep this thread more active! 🙂

My exams are going to be by the interview time, so I feel good, as not to worry... btw how did you anatomy exam go, I hope you did good!!! 🙂

Re the interview, I really don't know much about the format, apart from the introduction we have to do, BTW thanks a lot for the detailed explanation, did much help to me! But the questions I hope are going to be the ones we are asked regularly in an interview, why pharmacy, why UW, when is a time you had to step up and take responsibilty of your actions!

I am trying to find a thread in SDN where an individual has provided a list of common questions asked during an interview, if anyone knows what I am talking about can definately help!

Hey! Sorry to hear about the rejection but I don't think it has much to do with who your reference is or what pharm experience you have. I got an interview and my reference was a nurse and I have only have hospital volunteering and hospital work experience. I was a little surprised to get the interview since I don't have pharm experience but I guess thats not what they are looking for.

I was told that UW pharm received approx 500 applicants this year

The lady in the admissions office.

lol great reply.

So people getting interviews without pharmacy experience, 500 applicants and I guess 240 interviews. So it seems that everything we submitted during the application was looked at seriously.

Based on your interview time and dates (please don't post when and what time it is at) do you expect them to have sevral interview rooms with 30 mins allocated to each one? (I don't know the start times but does it look like people have interviews at 10:00, 10:30, 11, 11:30, 12)

From a friend who went through the process last year, they had multiple interviews going on at the same time. I figure its the same this year because I don't know how else you can conduct 240 30-min interviews in 3 days.

Did you guys have all your prereqs or were you planning to complete them before classes start in January?

still missing mgy lec + lab..will prolly finish them at ryerson in the 2008 fall term

Has anyone thought about what they are going to talk about for the 5-10 presentation? I still don`t know what to talk about! Even if I talk about a leadership experience, I already wrote it on my application form, and they said not to say stuff from the application. So does anyone have any ideas?

This is NOT the time to describe your academic achievements at length, recite your CV, or describe your ambitions for a career as a pharmacist. Rather, it is your opportunity to present something that you are passionate about, to leave an impression on the interview panel about who you are as a person.

just don't list everything in your profile again. but if you feel that ONE of these experiences is particularly outstanding at making you unique candidate you should definitely talk about that in detail. leadership is a great asset and i think you should def. go for that 👍
that's my interpretation..lol

i should stop going on sdn so much..🙁

hey shunsistoesis,

I was wondering which UofT chemisty courses you put for waterloo's pre-requsits for Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter (chm120) & Chemical Reactions, Equilibria & Kinetics (chm123).

did you put chm139H1 for both?

CHM120/120L -> CHM138H1
CHM123/123L -> CHM139H1

their equivalency system is kinda confusing..cuz CHM138 actually satisfies both CHM120/120L and CHM266/266L at waterloo

Yeah, I know what you mean. Actually, in my application, I put CHM139H for both of waterloo's CHM123+CHM120 requirements and had CHM138H only for orgo1.....screwed that up.😀

whoa. so you do orgo 1 in your first year of uni chem?

whoa. so you do orgo 1 in your first year of uni chem?

orgo at UofT st george is splt into 2 half classes, with the first part completed in first year and the second part which is a second year course.

at the scarborough campus, their first year orgo is like high school stuff (so that does not count as a credit in most schools) and their second year orgo is counted as st georges first year orgo lol

Hi guys, do have any ideas about:

what are some problems in pharmacy now?

what are biggest challenge in pharmacy now?

negative aspects of being a pharmacists?
