Any thoughts on the University Programs in Florida?

UF - Gainesville
FSU - Tallahassee
USF - Tampa
Florida University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Palm Beach Regional Campus Program - Atlantis, FL

I haven't heard much about any of these. Specifically, would one of these set you up for a fellowship better than a community campus of Mayo (Jacksonville), Cleveland Clinic (Florida), or Mt. Siani?

AFAIK Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach has nothing to do with MSSM.

As for the Atlantis program, it is probably even less so affiliated with UM than the JMH program (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It's a smallish program with lots of IMGs, and I believe they only have 1-2 other residency programs there aside from IM.

The FSU program is relatively new (I think 2-3 years max? I'm not even sure they have PGY3s yet. not sure). Also, I'm not sure if they have in house fellowships. There is little information on the website and actually they only appeared in ERAS in late July. Before that, the program did not show up on ERAS nor on FREIDA.

Can't really offer any other information on the others, aside from the USF program (and JMH in Miami) having lots of in house fellowships (big hospitals). Can't be bothered to look at the UF Gainesville and Jacksonville websites, and I don't know much about the programs either, but I'm sure they also have most fellowships in house and a decent (for FL) fellowship match list.

In general the university programs are better at placing you in matching for a fellowship then CCF, mount sinai, and mayo..

The big 3 are UF, USF, and UM -- they are all great programs -- you cant go wrong with any -- I personally favor usf bc its in a better city than Tampa, and not as high as a spanish speaking only population as miami (which may be pro or con depending on if you speak spanish or not). FSU is brand new program.

I think all three of the big 3 have all fellowship programs (except UF not having allergy/immunology -- i think)

I have a friend who is doing an away at Tampa (USF) right now for neurosurg and LOVES it. He said that the hospital is fabulous. He's probably going to rank it number 1...I know they're different programs, but the overall feel of the hospital is what he likes the most.

I was there a few months ago and I loved the hospital as well (the neuro ICU is beautiful). I honestly didn't interact much with the IM program, mostly just the staff and fellows for one of their IM fellowships, but there is a GREAT vibe within Tampa General and I thought Tampa was a pretty nice place to live in. Morning report was decent (though I don't have much to compare against), and the couple of IM residents I met were bright, extremely friendly and very laid back. Really nice people. Not to mention that the hospital is right on the water, which makes for a nice view. However, residents also go through the Moffitt Cancer Center and the local VA and my experience was limited to TGH only.

I am biased as I went to usf for med school -- I think its a great program, and all of the hospitals have variety of pathology, great attendings, and serve a great educational purpose -- TGH, our primary hospital was recently ranked #1 hospital in florida, moffitt is the premiere cancer center in the southeast, and their VA hospital is the busiest in the nation -- you rotate through every hospital. They just built 2 new outpatient facilities one next to TGH and one on the campus. One downside would be driving, but they have morning report/noon-conference and grand rounds at each hospital -- Its a program thats rising, and one of the few strong academic programs in florida (and Tampa is a pretty awesome city)

Does anyone have any comments on Mt Sinai in Miami Beach vs. Cleveland Clinic Florida?
