From what I understand, it's not an option for your 1st year. You need to live there for a year (used to be 6 months) before you can claim residency.

so Ruprick, where are you looking for living in Vegas? I am looking for apartments for rent but I want a safe place that is a bit far from the strip area..have any suggestions?

If your looking for an apartment to rent, I would look in Summerlin or Henderson in a gated community. They are 15-30 minute drive from the school but you really don't want to live around the school if you can help it. Also, there are usually dental students renting out rooms in their houses if you don't mind living with other people.

As for residency, make sure you get bills, bank accounts, and your driver's license in the state right away so that you can get residency after one year. They are getting very strict about the requirements but no matter what you're looking at paying out of state tuition for the first year.

Congratulations on your acceptance and good luck! 👍

I won't be attending UNLV because ASDOH offered me a spot. We had already started looking at a home to buy there when AZ called though. Are you definitely going to UNLV or are you still considering USC?

I heard about it just this Wednesday. I guess they accepted only 4 people from the waitlist. I was high on the list..(top 10%). I hope you get in if you are on the waitlist..

Wish you all luck..

I heard there is an option that if you get a job in there (full time prior to marticulation) you will be considered Nevada resident..is that true or not!..

If you work for the state board of education or the nevada system of higher education (i.e. UNLV) FULL time, you get automatic residency. That is a little tid-bit most people don't know about. 👍

Congrats on getting in. I am still on the waiting list, but I don't know my rank. Who did you contact to find out your rank? And did the school send you an email letting you know about your admission status?
