Hey, there! I thought it was about time to start a thread for the next cycle of applications to the University of New Mexico. I applied last year and did not get in, so if you have any questions about the whole process, I'd be happy to answer them.

Best of luck!

I also did not get accepted at UNM, but was invited for an interview. It was pretty clear that they accept very few out of staters, and only those with strong ties to NM. If you don't have those connections, I would not recommend applying.

Very true, Toby. I felt like it was kind of unfair for them to invite so many out-of-staters to the interview, since many of them had to fly in just for a few days, pay for a hotel and then not get into the program. It sounds like this year they are being a little more clear about not accepting very many non-New Mexicans.

Hello,

I also applied last year, got an interview, but did not get accepted. I am a New Mexico resident, so I guess we will see what happens this time around. Did ya'll apply anywhere else?

I'm applying to CSU. Another applicant last year with similar stats to mine was waitlisted at UNM and got into CSU, so I'm thinking it's a safe bet.

Any idea when interview selections will be released? 🙂

Any idea when interview selections will be released? 🙂

Last year they let us know Feb. 1st, so I'm assuming it will be Friday or early next week. Good luck to you all!

Anyone get their interview invitation? Got one on Friday! Crossing my fingers for an acceptance this year!

I got an interview! 🙂 Yay see ya there!

I've applied to UNM's OT program twice now and didn't even get an interview either time. All I got was an email saying to check in with them in March so they could tell me what to improve upon, but they would never reply to my emails or calls. I have over 200 hours of shadowing time with multiple OT's in multiple fields, a high GPA, and great letters of recommendation. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I was recently told by a current UNM OT student and a current Occupational Therapist whom I shadow that their classes were made up of all girls, so I did some research and found that the UNM program is very biased against men in the program. The classes for years have had little to no men.

Also, I've lived in New Mexico for my whole life and never plan on leaving so I would say those are some pretty strong ties to New Mexico, but I still didn't even get an interview

That is strange. I know of a couple of guys who got interviews. I think generally more women apply to the program. It took me a while to get ahold of someone last year when I did not get in, too, but I eventually met up with Heidi. Have you gone to any of the info sessions?

Still waiting. Anyone heard anything yet?

Me either!!! They said by the end of the month sooo..... today or tomorrow??? Fingers Crossed...

Whew. Waiting is hard! I'm glad you heard the end of the month deadline, too. I was beginning to think I had made it up.

I think they told our group "by early March". That could be next week! 😕

Got mine, too! Another student and I are starting a Facebook page for accepted students. Send me a private message if you'd like to join.

I haven't heard yet. I'm guessing that's a bad sign. 🙁

Well, I didn't get in, but I will try again next year. Any suggestions on what to improve?

I'm sorry to hear that. I know what a disappointment it is. Here's the thread from last year. At the very bottom I posted some info I got from Heidi about improving my application. I hope it helps. I the two biggest things I did was to make sure all my references were rock solid and heaped on a bunch of volunteer experience. I volunteered at HealthSouth, the VA hospital and Lovelace. They were all pretty quick about getting back to me.

Thanks! I'll check that out. Congratulations on getting in. 🙂
