So these are my scores:

PAT: 15
QR: 16
RC: 15
Bio: 17
GC: 15
OC: 17
TS: 16
AA: 16

This was my first time taking the test and I had a solid 2 weeks of studying put in.
Compared to every single post I've read on SND I did horrifically bad. I don't think I've seen anyone with lower scores.

Also curious to know if the lowest is 15? Because I didn't finish some of the sections and I thought it would have been a lower score. I know it ranges from 1-30 but I was expecting a lower score (that sounds terrible but it's the truth)

So this is my story. I applied for this cycle. I felt VERY pressured to apply to my instate school (very long story), even though I had not taken nor studied for the DAT at all. I did, I applied on AADSAS, and even submitted my secondary application with their fee, and I'd say all of this was done between early September to early October. When it was all submitted I set a date for the DAT, November 17th. I didn't start really studying until the end of October, and I bought the DAT destroyer, and a friend donated all of their previous material for me to study. As expected I got overwhelmed with everything and was studying random things and cramming. I just found out about SDN and lets just say I wish I knew about this site sooner. I just now took my DAT and scores (terrible) will be sent within two weeks. Two weeks from today is December 1 and that's when the application closes. And clearly with all the procrastination of getting my application in and just now taking my DAT, it's obvious my chances are very slim to none into getting into school. I am going to retest in 90 days.

I guess this more of a venting post for me, because my friends are not in the medical/dental field so they don't know what to say or give me any advice.

All I know is that I wish I didn't give into the pressure to apply and waste all that money, before even taking the test.

Anyway I would love any input or advice and opinions, about how to prepare for my next exam, and what to do for next cycle from my fellow pre-dents out there!!

I greatly appreciate it! Good luck and God Bless!!

Well I can tell you that a 15 isn't the lowest. I made a 12 in QR. Rushing into an application is an expensive waste of time. Take your time and study for the DAT and apply early. Don't give up!👍

1. Don't take the DAT in 90 days. Give yourself more time to prepare yourself to take the exam and do well. There is no need to rush seeing that there is very little chance of you getting in this cycle, so you might as well prepare yourself as best you can so you only have to take it one more time.
2. Apply earlier and get your transcripts and letters of recommendation together before June. The application deadline can be misleading. Most of the class has already interviewed before and is being given letters of acceptances on December 1st (which is why I think you have a very small chance, if at all, of getting in this year). It seems like most people who get in are interviewing in the fall, prior to December 1st.
3. Don't let SDN freak you out. Take everything with a grain of salt.

if you want to take it in 90 days and can truly dedicate the time to studying, then do so. With the holidays coming up I would wait to take it til May so you can have everything ready to go to submit by June 1st and be able to work at a more comfortable pace

Thank you for the advice ! I really appreciate it ! Are you a current dental student ? How many times did you take the DAT ? If you don't mind me asking. Also I have pretty good letters now can I reuse it next cycle and my personal statement ? Or do I have to start from scratch again? I only applied to one school this year.

Very true! Thank you for the advice !!

Hey Guys!
I need some serious advice! I have already submitted my application and most of my secondaries but the DAT practice tests are really making me worried. I have been studying for over two months and I am not even getting 18's on the practice exams. I am signed up to take my exam on August 22, 2016 and don't know if I should just take it or push it back. I have friends that are currently attending dental school and said anything after mid-August is too late. If I don't do well then I can't retake the DATs until end of November..
Should I risk it or play safe.
(I thought I was going to be ready and applied to 10+ schools don't want it to go to waste.)

Are you scoring low on practice because of stress/bad conditions or because of lack of knowledge? I know practice doesn't mean everything but things aren't looking too good right now 🙁

That Bio section is too in-depth I can't seem to remember all the details. Do you think if I push it back another 3 weeks it would be fine or too late for this cycle? My GPA is good, my letters of Rec are in, and I have done a decent about of shadowing and had leadership positions while in college. Its is just the DAT. I have been using DAT bootcamp and not scoring too high. I didn't use my destroyer book because I started running out if time. I was thinking if I push it back a few weeks I could do more practice problems and use other sources and study the details a little more. Or will I be better off taking in now and maybe again in November if my score isn't what Id like it to be.

What kind of sources did you use? I have friends that were getting 15's 16's on the bootcamp exams and ended up getting 18's and 19' on the real one. I was thinking about calling a few of the schools tomorrow before I make my final decision.

I graduated this May and I am dreading the thought of not getting in this cycle and having to take two years off.

Advice will be highly appreciated! Please and thank you 🙂

It's best to try to score as high as possible on the DAT as you can the first time. If everything else is in order then just delay your test a few weeks. It's possibly late in the cycle but you don't want to waste money by doing poorly on the DAT if that's your gut feeling. That's the best option in my opinion. If you cram hard you can make so much progress. You can read my breakdown if you want to see the materials I used! PM me also if you have additional questions.
