Unrealistically Fast and Easy way to finish Prerequisites

I have a friend who went through an accelerated science curriculum which consisted of all the pre-med classes (O-chem, physics, etc) in 1/4 the time and the midterms were ridiculously EASY!!!! 😡 😡 😡

He claims that it will be accredited for US med schools, but I just can't see how it would! Any mindless drone can get an "A" in this program and I was speechless when he said he will be applying to US Allo schools especially since he took his courses at a chiropatric school 😱 😱 😱 . Here is the website, can someone people tell me if this is some elaborate loop hole in getting into med school or that my friend was mistaken and his chances to med school is close to nilch.

Your friend's an idiot and he probably won't get in. People who try to cheat the system typically don't survive this process. For example, his MCATs may be very low because he didn't learn the material well enough. Or, schools will see where he went and toss his application.

It is not easy to pull the wool over the eyes of adcoms.... They are going to notice and say "uhhh.... you took Ochem at a chiropractic school?" 😱
There is no good reason why you would choose to take undergrad science courses at a chiropractic college while never intending to be a chiropractor.

Plus, I have a feeling that many adcoms know about programs like this, and weigh applicants accordingly.

OP, have you looked at the Course-to-Course transfer guide for that college?

Not one of those "pre-req" courses transfer to any college in the UC system. Additionally, where it says "transfers to professional programs like pharmacy", they only list University of Pacific as transferable....

On the other hand, your friend will be able to transfer his 'earned' credits to LA Community college - what a lucky, lucky fellow.

Dont try to cheat the system, it does not work.

Clearly he is not cut out ot be a doctor. A doctor, besides being intelligent, must be kind, caring, and above all, honest.

He is doing a dishonest act by attend that school, whose credentials I don't care to read about. Also, anyone who tries to take a "shortcut" to med school is not ready for the hardwork that will greet them in medical school. Are you going to cheat your whole life? If you are, you are only cheating yourself, your patients, and ultimately the world.

That's my 2 cents on this topic. Keep the honest path my friend, because that is where truly great doctors and service people come from.

Forget about your buddy. I used to be like you...angry that other people found shortcuts and stuff, while I had to do the old school.

But I stopped living my life like that and stopped keeping score. I only keep score with myself now and my life has become better and better....and better haha. Anyways, just view your little friend as a guinea pig and see where it lands him. It isn't your issue/problem.

True, I really have to stop comparing myself to others. I tell myself this but here and there I get aggravated to here more stories like this one. I just come here to vent and the next day I feel better 🙂 .

I think it depends on MCAT scores. If they're good enough, it just might work...I mean I know a lot of people who didn't take certain pre-req classes at all. But, this clearly isn't top tier material and adcomms know it.

All accredited chiropractic colleges have the exact same accreditation as other major universities. American Association of Higher Education, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers...just to name a few. If you know your accrediting agencies you know these are the same agencies that give accrediations to all major colleges and universities.

Do your research before you attack another path that someone chooses or another health care field.

I agree - those that go to carribean schools most likely go there because they could not get into US allo schools. However, apply there anyway as cover.

A professor of mine, who is also an ADCOM member at Stony Brook, said that its a very wise choice to apply to Carribean schools. He said he knows a lot of people who thought they'd get in (somewhere, not necessarily stony), and didn't, and lost a year because they thought they were too good to have to resort to a carribean school.

well I just re-read above, and again, I dont find any slamming of the school, just the mentioning of the fact the the credits are not widely transferable... and the poster i replied too said not to attack peoples choice of path (which i took to mean the path of a do, or chiropractor) which no one did so...

i, btw, go to chiropractors and take homeopathic medicine, and i am gonna be an md, so i am not one of those people who attack 'other paths'

I knew it had to be true. My cousin failed at the University of British Columbia in his first year, yet he got accepted into a medical school. I thought that was strange. Don't Caribbean schools look at official transcripts before an applicant applies? Or they care more about the money rather than the grades?

To the OP, you need to relax. Let's say your amigo does get into Med School, big deal, so what if his path was easier, so what if he spent less money. Don't worry about his path and worry about your own. He probably knows he's taking a risk and if it pays off for him he deserves what he gets in the risk/reward scheme of things. You play the safe route and consequently will have a better chance of getting in so don't sweat him. Don't be like Jeanie:

I am not saying that chiropractic school is anyway easier than allo (even though I may believe so), however, after going through his midterms and final... his perticular (SPECIFIC) program was easier than finding an asain in a public school library.

*Also, I am curious because he never studies and gloats about his path all the time, convincing others that he will get into allo-schools, whereas, I have many very hard-working friends who are struggling everyday to get into med school.

I agree with this.

I was the one who said the credits are not going to transfer well, and I was certainly not attacking chiropractic medicine. I have gone to chiropractors and believe there are some great ones, and some not so great ones (as there is with any medical field).

My only point with regard to going to a chiropractic college for some pre-reqs is that adcoms will assume the student was up to something shady, otherwise they would have taken the courses at their primary university/college, saved some money and time. To go through all that trouble, there had to be some pay-off (for instance an abbreviated course in Organic Chemistry) and the ADCOMS will notice this.

The classes he took were a complete joke! I saw there midterms... they were one page long and had only 10 questions. On top of that, they were EXTREMELY basic. As in, is this cell a) prokaryote or b) eukaryote.

And to really put the cherry on top. He never took the mcat. They said he can start the semester and finish it while ur doing the couse. wtf? He never did research or any sort of volunteer/shadowing etc. He had a 3.0 GPA at a not so stellar school, and slacked off throughout college. How can this be? The Caribbean can't be that easy to get into, can it?!

This must stop. One of three things is true:

1) You are a troll.
2) Your friend is lying and you are gullible.
3) Your friend is already a doctor in another health-related field, the ONLY situation (besides non-US citizenship) that permits a Ross University student to matriculate without the MCAT.

Listen. I am not a troll. Check out any of my other 400 posts and you will see that I have not trolled once (I think I even mentioned that my brother wanted to go there one year). This is not a friend of a friend kind of story. This person is someone that I knew for 5 years and I had been updated on his progress into med school. He had just moved out and is now living in the Caribbeans as we speak. I have the utmost respect for most of the people who come out of Ross and USG. I know doctors, very respectable doctors, who came out of Ross.

Now that being said, I was quite astonished as to his admissions as well. This is probably why most of you can't believe that this is true. But it is. I shouldn't even be posting this, because most of my friends know my account name and will therefore know who I am talking about. But I think the person understands that he had it much easier than most people and is fortunate to even enter med school.

He started his premeds the beginning of last year at an accelerated chiropractic school. He told me about his schedule and I went to his house, time to time and looked at his midterms. Throughout the year, he had plenty of free time. He traveled for a couple of months, went out, etc. His midterms were nothing more than a joke. You cant possible expect students to learn 3 years worth of pre-med content in 1 year and learn it well. There had to be a trade-off. And to allow the student to do well so they have the confidence to enter their chiropractic school (which is really what the classes were meant for), the tests had to be easier.

Now in this time, he has never did mcat prep, bought an mcat book, or register for an mcat test. I don't even think he is clear onto which what exactly is on the mcat. However, he has an agreement with Ross that he must finish the mcat before he graduates medical school... but I think thats only a formality (therefore he will just mark all C).

Again, please dont take this as a toll... but is it really that easy to get into Carribean schools?

I don't understand how and why someone would take the MCAT while in medical school, it just seems odd. I believe in your statements but something is quite off with your friend, is he in some university program at Ross before entering medical school at Ross or something of that sort.

That could be a possibility, but I heard nothing of the sort. He had always told me that he would be attending USG and it was a surprise to me that one day he told me that he was starting Ross med school.

The caribbean is a harder road to take if you hope to practice in the US. Attrition at those schools is huge. Folks prone to shortcuts will be washouts.

I think thats a generalization. Many Docs including some in my family attended Caribbean schools, and they are far from washouts. Its about the individual not the local. 😎

I think the entire mentality of trying to take the "easy road" runs opposite to the path of medicine.

There is no easy road. Go to a library's science section and pick out some anatomy, bio-chem, micro, path, histo, etc books. Put them on the table. This entire stack of books is what you need to know + thousands and thousands of hours of clinical training.

There is no way to learn this but to crack down and start doing it. No easy road. Undergrad IS the easiest time by itself and if someone thinks that taking o-chem, bio, etc is difficult at a 4-year uni, medicine may not be right for them.
