I applied to pharmacy school for the first time and I was not accepted. 🙁 I am contemplating applying to a post bacc program to raise my GPA but I don't know if it is worth the time or money. If anyone has any thoughts I would really appreciate it. I was also thinking of taking some classes over at a cc but I read that some schools would rather see you take classes at a 4-year so I don't know what to do.

If you haven't done so already, call up the schools you applied to and ask if they will tell you why you have come up short. Then work on those areas. But your post didn't give enough information. If you include your GPA, PCAT scores, pharmacy experience, and ECs, you will get more useful information out of this thread. Without more knowledge of what you look like as a candidate, we are all just guessing.

Sorry for the vague post. So as of right now my overall gpa is 3.11 and I have volunteered 2 years in a community hospital with a 3 month rotation in the pharmacy. I am currently working at a community pharmacy to get a different type of pharmacy experience since I was only use to a hospital setting. I have not taken the PCAT since I only applied to school in CA, but I will most likely take it this year. I don't have very much EC and I'm not too sure how to improve that area of my application. I have not contacted the schools that I had applied to, but I will definitely get in contact with them. I was originally going to take classes over at a cc to raise my gpa but then I came across the possibility of a post-bacc program and wasn't sure if that was the better path to take of the two. any thoughts? thank you!

Do your schools utilize PharmCAS or do they have their own way to calculate your GPA? If they utilize their own methods, the community college method might not be the worst idea. How long ago did you take the courses you now want to retake?

U made a very bold move by not applying out-of-state. How did you plan to compete with those people that have stellar gpa and intensive research? Sadly to say, but CA schools pretty much grade you base on your gpa. I'm pretty sure you're unique in a way but the admission won't know that b/c your application is thrown b4 it gets in the door. Sure, there are people who got in CA school with subpar gpa, but that's just 1 out of gazillion. I suggest you expand your view and go out of state for a solid chance. With that gpa, I'm pretty positive you'll get in somewhere. Good luck bro, and going to a CC is totally fine. Everyone i know who (re)takes classes there all got in. I say forget calling admission and just get on with the post-bacc. Good luck to u!

I have a M.S. and during interviews schools looked highly upon that because it showed I could succeed in professional school (I had a 3.8 during grad. school and held a 20/hr week part-time job as well)

What he/she said. I think you really need to realize applying to CA schools is a whole different game. It will be extremely hard to match up to the average CA applicant pool with your stats. If you have a lower GPA, you need a strong PCAT to balance that out. Consider taking the PCAT and definitely apply out of state.

A higher than normal PCAT and some really strong softs will be important to you, OP. And for California, as Weetzie alluded to, will require you to get back to the books and take some post-bacc. type classes. A CC here in CA will be fine at most schools barring UCSD and USC but ensure you get pretty much straight As.

A question for those who went back to CC to do prereqs:

How many years did you do at CC or how many units?
