I've been meaning to ask...with a GPA of 3.5 or so and an MCAT of around 24, how come you applied to this program? It doesn't seem like you need to improve your GPA all that much (which is the goal of this program), and this program doesn't exactly "help" with the MCAT (unless you count their MCAT prep thing they make you do if below 28, "help").

Hope that didn't sound rude - believe me, I wish I had a 3.5 and an acceptance already.

Well my Gpa is 3.8 with a 27 mcat. I'm applying because I applied last cycle and didn't even get an interview at tcom. I really want to stay in Texas and I want to prepare for med school in my gap year. I also think with a focuses summer I can improve my
Score. Also from my understanding it's not all about Gpa repair. I applied two cycles and didn't get any interviews so theirs something up with my app. And they can probably help me fix it.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll be able to help with apps as well. If accepted, I plan to use all of their resources lol.

Have you talked to any of the admissions offices of the programs you applied to? Your stats are solid for DO - what do you think you need help on, on the app? I know I definitely could use way more non-medical community service / volunteering.

I didn't do so well in my senior year of college, so I don't have an upward trend over the last 40 hours. I decided to go out more and so my grades suffered at the end. Hopefully, IF I do well in the program, it will cancel out my grades from senior year. I'm going to take this time do some growing up and mature and do my best.

And this is part of the reason why I'm doing the program too! Who knows what else is wrong with my app (because apparently it's not all about the numbers) and I want a chance to improve it.
 
Woot!! Accepted!!! Good luck to everyone. I'm guessing they sent out acceptance emails around 2, cuz my email was exactly at 2.

No rejection as of yet, here's hoping they just have not gotten to the 'W's on acceptance emails yet 😛

Waiting is making me anxious! What do you think the chances are that the seats will fill up before they actually finish sifting through everybody? I submitted my application and supporting documents righttt before the app deadline

I don't think they'll fill up spots before sifting through everybody. Based on past threads there were people accepted who submitted right up til the day before the app closed! Don't lose hope 🙂

Hey all,

I've just found this thread and have read thru the whole thing. This waiting game does suck horribly. Congrats to y'all who were accepted this past week! I'm still here.... hopeful. I was hoping to share my stats and to see if anyone knows the averages for acceptance off hand? I applied to all MD in TX and to TCOM this round. Got an interview at TCOM and am still on the wait list. Stats are cGPA 3.6 sGPA 3.4 MCAT 28.

This feed has been super helpful in easing my mind. At least I'm not alone... can I hear an amen! :hello:

They won't fill up before going through every applicant first. That wouldn't be very fair to the pool. And also, there could be people more deserving (based on stats alone) that might be overlooked if this was the policy.

Waiting DOES suck though.
 
Has anyone here applied to other similar programs? In Texas or otherwise?
 
Also does anyone know if there is a wait list for this program? Because I know some of us are on wait lists for med schools and this is our back up plan…but if we WERE to get off the wait list for a medical school, would a spot open up for others wanting to get into this program? Just curious.
 
from previous reads, It seems like there is a wait-list, because people are called like a week before class starts to attend. But I assume its probably not that long, and the window is pretty short since the program starts in May... I have not been rejected yet, so that's all I have got to hold on to. :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

I have the same thoughts so far...as long as I haven't been rejected I'm still hanging on to some hope! I don't know about anybody else but Friday mornings I'm a mess with my refresh button lol.

I now have an irrational fear (anxiety?) of logging into my portal and checking the status. I just lurk this thread from time to time, and when someone is accepted or rejected, I check. :whoa:

I submitted close the the deadline too. Does your application show as complete? I am concerned because my status is incomplete due to missing documents. I am hoping they are still behind in processing.
 
Mine does say app complete @PA33
You should definitely call them and ask if processing is still going on or what you're missing. If its something simple, maybe you could just hand deliver it yourself
 
Thanks for replying @silentshadow59 I am really concerned now. I have already sent emails but will be making calls today as well.
 
Definitely call them, mine said incomplete up to about a week or two past the deadline but I called a few days before the deadline and they told me they had received everything and I was complete and that they were running behind on updating the statuses.
 
@PA33 I think they did say they would be lenient on supporting docs arriving past the deadline. seeing as how people are beginning to get accepted just hurry and get your items in before they review us late submitters
 
I spoke with Jessica today and she said they had processed all documents received by the deadline but they were still loading things that came in the week after. I confirmed everything was delivered so I should be okay. Though the waiting has me on edge 🙁 Thanks for the feedback.
 
Anyone know if we have to do research in this program, thesis, etc?
 
Non-residents of Texas, please share your experience with this program and matriculating to a Texas medical school. 🙂

As it was stated earlier in the thread, is it true that if you get accepted will you be able to claim that you are a resident for admissions purposes after completing the program?

(I am living in Texas now but I'm not a resident because I am not working. By the time this program starts next year I would have only worked for 5 months or so.)

I could be wrong, but I assume you don't have to be working in Texas to be considered a TX resident - I think you just have to have proof of residence in Texas (dating back to at least a year or so?) to be considered to be a resident.

I've lived in Texas throughout high school and undergrad, and I'm not currently working - it wouldn't make much sense to NOT consider me a Texas resident.

There was another SDN member who was accepted 2 Fridays ago - and all of the acceptances in this thread, so far, had applications submitted in January, for what it's worth.

You lived in Texas throughout high school which is why you are considered a Texas resident. For me, I just arrived here a few months ago after graduating undergrad.

These are the stipulations I must follow for admissions to medical school:
Option 2: Residency by Establishing Domicile
  1. Live in Texas for 12 consecutive months by the application deadline, October 1; and
  2. Establish and maintain domicile for 12 consecutive months prior to the application deadline, October 1, by doing one of the following:
    • Be gainfully employed in Texas (Student jobs do not qualify as gainful employment) -Gainful employment is employment that provides an income that is sufficient to provide at least one-half of the individual's tuition and living expenses or that represents an average of at least twenty hours of employment per week
    • Sole or joint marital ownership of residential real property in Texas by the person seeking to enroll or the dependent's parent, having established and maintained a domicile at the residence
    • Own and operate a business in Texas
    • Be married for one year to a person who has established domicile in Texas."

My question is if I will be competing for OOS spots for medical school after I complete the TCOM program? I think I'll have to call admissions but just in case anyone knows better, I'm putting my dilemma out there. 🙂

I really want to stay in Texas. But there is no way I can get into a school as a resident without taking an entire year off it seems. 🙁

From "getting to TX a few months ago" to May 2015 (program start date for next year) is more than 12 months, so that fulfills the first requirement. And you said that you would have worked only for about 5 months when the 2015 program would start (May). And from May to October (the app deadline) is 5 months, so that's about 10 months of working...

Unless I'm missing something, that's only 10 months, out of the 12 you need, to fulfill the second requirement, which means you're not able to completely fulfill it? I'm super glad you have a job lined up, but are you able to start that job sooner?

If you start working pretty immediately you'll catch the next application cycle as a resident.
 
I haven't. Last Friday, people found out around 2pm central, iirc.
 
I wonder if people are finding out all day everyday and just aren't on SDN to tell us 😛
