Hi, I am applying this cycle as well. For those that did not send in a DO letter, did y'all send in a MD letter instead? Thanks and good luck to everyone!
Nope. Mine were research mentor. 2 science profs that knew me very well.
Family as in kids? The stockyards are kinda fun and might be worth checking out, and the zoo is incredible! Lots to do for families, you should have a great time! Are you coming in from OOS? I'm about 5 hours down the road in San Antonio, can't wait to make the trip!
Yip have two little 'uns- my son will love the stockyards and cowboy stuff, can't wait!! I'm coming from Houston so its still a bit of drive for them but we'll make a trip out of it 😛 Hope to see you there!!

I didn't send in any extra letters, just the original ones for TMDSAS I had from 1 MD, the rest were from profs - good luck too!
My LOR from a DO was sent today, I have been complete since 7-8. Do you think they wait to make a decision until the letter arrives?
I have a DO letter but got an interview before they received it. I will be bringing the sealed letter to my interview day.
Anyone know who we will be facing at the interviews? This is my first and I didn't know before this that there were TWO!

Most of the Texas schools have 2 one on one interviews
From past years it seems like one was a PhD and the other was an MD or DO. However theres been cases of both Ph.D and both MD/DO. So just be prepared. You are interviewed by the faculty or by physicians that work in their system

This is correct! Most of the people who interviewed with me had on PhD and one doctor that was either DO/MD. I do not believe they have students do interviews. They were very easy going interviews and just asked questions like: health care reform, why "this" school, what do you know about osteopathic medicine, asked more about specifics on your application. Overall, a low stress interview. Most of the Texas schools have 2 one on one interviews

For those wondering about hotel accommodations, the UNTHSC visitor site has a note about a special rate at the Fairfield Inn.

only problem with hotels around that area is noise. From trains and traffic. I'm staying at a hotel a little further west on i 30. still 5 minute drive to unthsc.

Hey guys. Remember a do letter is not required so don't fret. Many of us who pre matched didn't have a do letter and they will accept and interview you without one.
Like others said ur interviews will consist of phd,do,md, or even podiatrist. They are 1 on 1 approx 40 min and very very low stress. Review ur app, healthcare, ethical situations and be confident.
This might be a silly question, but should we fly solo on interview day? I'm not sure if people will have a parent/significant other with them or if that's frowned upon...
Depends on the school. Most likely its better to go solo but you could always call the school and ask.
Yeah I was going to call tomorrow also, I was also curious if it might make me look like a kid to the other interviewees if I brought a parent haha. For anyone else curious about this, I am calling tomorrow and will let y'all know! 😛
To bring a portfolio or not to bring a portfolio....

Its wise to bring a resume just in case they are having computer troubles and can't get your app uploaded(when its supposed to be an open interview).

1. Flying or driving in on ur interview day is not the wisest of ideas.
I no ppl do it and you can usually tell who they are because they are the ones who look tired and stressed and have wrinkled suits. You could potentially be matriculating and living in ft worth. Take time to enjoy the city.
2. Ditch your parents, you prob should have done this along time ago.
But if you must, make sure they stay at the hotel. There will be a pre orientation day for your parents and family to come tour the facilities.
3. Some schools welcome significant others, this is were you could possibly be moving your spouse and their input and involvement is crucial for your happiness and success. Unfortantly I am not sure the official tcom position on this matter.
4. I always brought a portfolio however tcom will give a pen and a large folder filled w info so take that into account, you don't want to be carrying too much around all day...I learned this the hard way at tech. TCOM has ur paper app and evaluation hand delivered prior to ur interview so there is no worries about them not being able to pull up your app.

Didn't realize they downloaded and printed off your app. Which is great. Just a little anecdote: From the interview feedback at my school it seems there was a case last year where one interviewer arrived late and forgot the file and couldn't download it. So without a resume or app copy on hand it just kinda turned into a closed interview.

Oops must have forgotten that part in the edit. Yes I always brought my cv w me on interview along with anything new I wanted the school to add to my application. Just good habit I think.

Sorry I meant just going alone to interview day... but this is good advice for others!
Just got a call from Caroline this morning for an interview on 8/9!!!!
Transmitted: 6/30

I got an email from my advisor about a month ago about the recruitment weekend, I don't think it's related in any way to the interview process. From what I understand it's just a generic weekend for anyone interested in the school.
Piano major huh? My undergrad degree is in voice, music education specifically. Did you do a post-bacc program to get your prerequesites or did you do them on your own? Hope you get an interview invite soon!
Will I be seeing anyone at the Recruitment Weekend next week?

Congratulations!
Perhaps there is still hope for me. It appears as if people are getting calls 3 days after they are complete. Perhaps another way to look at it is that they read your primary app first when they receive it. Then make a decision 3 days after you are complete.
I'll be there.
Sweeet. Are you goin Friday night also or just Saturday?
Will I be seeing anyone at the Recruitment Weekend next week?
Not me 🙁 I can't afford to make the trip from San Antonio twice, especially just a few days apart since my interview is the 4th. Wish I could, can't wait to hear all about it!

Yes, I will be there Friday. Although I might not be considered a minority student. I don't think it really matters though.

I wouldn't worry too much. To be honest the recruitment weekend announcement is on their website for everyone to see. I was excited when I got the email but quickly came to the conclusion that it is just an announcement. I am going because I could use some face time. I am not the best applicant numbers wise but what I like in stats I make up in pure charisma and charm. 😍 I would love to be one of the lucky ones to get a phone call for an interview before the open house though.
finally submitted my secondary.. the waiting begins

Yeah, I'm pretty much the same way. I need to see the place and meet some of the staff there. I'm actually waiting until after the RW to submit my secondary here. I know it's ill advised because the earlier the better. But I think it could help out a little to explain how I learned about the place when I attended the RW.

Haha! My numbers aren't all that either so there is hope, in saying that I will still be working on my one liners in a vein hope to impress

For those of you attending the recruitment weekend - what attire are you planning on? I'm also a candidate trying to get some face time in with TCOM, and I'm pretty excited for the tour.
I'm thinking a dress shirt and jeans. Def not a suit because it's not a formal interview. 😎

Business casual should be sufficient. Don't overdress. It's very hot right now in Ft. Worth.
