I did an SMP and finished with a 3.5 GPA. About 5 years ago, right after college, I took 3 graduate science classes ( 2 B's, 1 C) as a post-bacc because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do at that time. After AMCAS finished my application, they combined the 3 crummy grades, so my total graduate science GPA is now 3.36. I thought they would go under post-bacc GPA, but I was wrong. So, I'm curious if committees will know that I did better in the SMP than shows by just looking at the total graduate science GPA.

Just by looking at the total, they wouldn't, the individual classes will be lost in the average. But they've got access to your verified transcript grades as well. So, if they want to look closer, they can still see what you got in any given class. The information is available to them.

Mattabet is correct. Unfortunately adcoms probably won't look at your individual classes until after a preliminary screening, although the first screening is usually based upon undergraduate GPA. Either way, your best bet is to achieve an outstanding MCAT score to show that you mastered the content taught in the SMP.

Most SMPs are actual medical school courses. A good MCAT score may demonstrate that you've mastered the prereqs, but won't really help when it comes to demonstrating mastery in an SMP. It might be useful to get your SMP program director to send an LOR describing your performance. Make sure he/she includes your GPA for the program.
