A patient brought a rx for Hydrocodone 5/500 1qd. It was a bad handwriting but it really looked like 1qd (if you try really really really hard to justify q6h from that hand writing it was little bit too pushing it, but maybe...it was BAD handwriting). So, we called MD office and a staff, who said she was doctor's nurse, verified 1qd. She said she asked doctor.

Have you seen 1qd vicodin dosing? I have seen once a long time ago. I called md to verify at that time as well since it's usually taken q4-6hrs. MD said he was weaning off pt from vicodin with 1qd dosing. That was the only time I have ever seen it.

How often do you see 1qd dosing? Do you think I should call again to speak to a doctor directly?

I can't believe you wasted time calling on this. If the pt isn't saying it is wrong, and it is easy to read, the less vicodin the better.

Patient had no idea how to take it. And handwriting was really bad. It lookwed like 1qd but there was something very very tiny inbetween q and d but it did NOT look like 4 or 6 to make 1q4h or 1q6h. All 4 of us looked at it, and couldn't decide..so, we called...

Okay, so you had a prescription you could not read so you called and verified....good job. Was there a question here?

Oh there it is!

I don't know the exact number but more than a few. Had a patient on 1 qhs for low back pain that bothered them only at night when they were sleeping. 1 qd for a pt that gets an occasional tension headache. You should worry more about the Vicodin scrpits you get that are written for to much not too little.

A waste of time imo.🙄

Thank you so much! it's really helpful!!

yep, i've seen 1 po qd on vicodin quite often these days.. kinda strange, but as PP have said, heck, the less vicodin, the better.
🙂

yep, done that and darvocet 1qd too. same as above, its usually for an old lady with some back or leg pain that only bothers her when sleeping. i love those, they never try to get an early refill
