i'm thinking of applying next year to dentistry

I was looking at UoP and was wondering about this school.

Are there any disadvantage to finishing your degree in 3 years?

Also, how is UoP in terms of quality of education and reputation?

Do they accept many out of state students?

THanks!

go to predents.com

they take a good number of out of state students as they are a private school.

they have a good reputation for preparing students clinically but it is a very expensive school but you are done in 3 years as compared to 4. For older students like me, completing school in 3 years is an attractive things as time gets more valuable when you are older...

I just finished an interview with UOP and I came away with a very good impression of the school.

to answer your question, UOP is the only 3 yr program in the nation and it is apparently very popular among dentists to send their own kids to the school.

Their program is accelerated in the first year and I think you do miss out a little on subjects of public health and the academic approach to dentistry. UOP also does not emphasize research much. If you are interested in these areas, UOP might not be the best fit for you.

The campus is pretty dang awesome. You get your own sim lab station that is up to date. The clinic is nice, but still they are planning on an update within the next few years. (might be ready for the incoming class by their time in the clinic)

My advice: Just apply and see what happens. It'll cost you, but $150 now won't matter much in the long term. Plus you never know where you'll get in and where you won't. 1 more school won't hurt.

pretty much sums it up....only downside to 3 years in my opinion is if you are used to taking light loads you may be overwhelmed...you take 24 units per quarter your first year and then boards a few months following that year.

If you feel you are not prepared after 3 years at UoP, do a GPR and still finish in 4.
