I just spoke with Kathy at UOP about my application and she informed me that the entire interview schedule is full. Normally they interview until March but apparently they filled the class quick so there will be no interviews after January.

For me UOP was my number one choice so I'm very dissapointed. I had a really strong application (22 DAT, double major from college) but now I won't even get a shot at an interview.

Is anybody else out there awaiting an interview at UOP and heard the same thing?

javadi u are the king of calling people out... u better loosen up if we are gonna be classmates next year... hehe just playin
that does seem really strange tho... if a dental school wanted the best and brightest wouldn't they wait for the full pool of applicants and then get the best, not just select from the early ones?

I'm on the same boat, strong DAT but late application. Such a bad news to many of us and my hope of getting out of dental school in 3 years is destroyed. 🙁

Oh man I feel your pain Profchaos. UOP is my first choice and I'm really really hoping that the interview schedule is not full. 🙁 I feel depressed now but I should have seen it coming, UOP is a really popular school, but damn..this hurts. 🙁

My stats are only 23, 22, 20, GPA 3.7, but Calbear82 you have such an amazing stats on DAT. I feel you deserve an admission no matter what from UOP, for a top of line general dentist school, they should accept the top 1% DAT stud 🙂 ent in the nation even if it's a little late. If I were you I would go to Harvard but I don't have a bachelor yet.

Oh I don't think my stats are that much better than yours, your gpa is a lot higher. It really bites that we're not even going to get the chance to interview b/c we applied late. But it's all good though. There are other good schools and no matter what, we'll be dentists 😀

Profchaos, if I were a dental school I would rather accept you than the dude with 25, 29 DAT scores. His GPA is only 3.5. F%#k that GPA - it sucks. But you, you got the goods all round my friend. I think I'm in love 😍

I was just wondering though, why would they fit the class full so fast and how possibly would they know? All applicants to UOP have until Jan 15th to decide for a deposit, and some people would take the deposit as a loss and go to another school(maybe Harvard or UCLA I guess~). How can they determine it's full or it will be full in Jan :scared:

Buddy Delicious, I hope this is also being sarcastic hehe. It looks to me there's really not that much of a difference between 3.5 and 3.7. It's all good. To all the depressed and upset, let's all believe in miracles, the stories that we heard such as xxx got in to UOP after Feburary might occur again  I'm gonna watch more southpark and forget about all these worries.... it's alllllllll gooooooood.

no, no, no. I was just trying to be sarcastic and funny. Sorry, I guess that doesn't really come across in written words. That's why I put the laughing face at the bottom of the post.

Honestly - congratulations!!!!"

UOP is actually a very smart school. By giving out acceptances to a great program like itself, it puts the alot of the TOP students they accept on the spot into putting a deposit down. Forcing students to put a deposit down, (and most will since its a great program) they will be guaranteed a large sum of deposit money. If many of those students choose to go elsewhere, UOP gets to keep that money. I am sure they make alot of money that way. Its smart business.

Yeah man, I'm totally kidding. Boy, I have to work on this SDN thing - people keep getting the wrong impression of me. That's really tough not getting into UoP just because of timing: i got into there with a little lesser GPA, and much lesser DAT Scores. I wish you good luck. Here's a clover for you!!!!! :luck:

I'm estimating that there would be no more than 100 people that deposit and then withdraw (I think this number is generous even). At that rate, the $1,000 depost would make them $100,000 each year. You really think this is a TON of money to dental schools? I hardly believe that this would be their motivation for sending out those acceptances. All we know is that some guy "said" that he "talked" with kathy (presumably at approximately 8p.m.) and was told that their class was full. If you think about this long enough you would be able to see why it could not possibly be true. Anyway, I'm sick of people posting things that they just don't know about. Don't crush others dreams of getting into UOP, there will definately be more acceptances given out!

👍 👍 👍
I totally agree with you. This is also my way of viewing the whole admissions process. Esp. UOP, they have the power to wait. The other four Cal schools have only given out less than 50% of their class size.

Although this was what the admissions crew told me, I still don't believe that UOP class was filled. I sent my app fee in after they had told me that.

I would think UOP actually doesn't have as much time to wait. Matriculation starts in July as opposed to September so they have to get commitments from applicants much sooner.

That's wierd, i spoke with Kathy this morning and that isn't what she told me. For those of you who care to know where they stand, she said that they DID send out enough acceptances to fill their class and they are happy with the caliber of the students accepted. They expect MOST but not ALL to accept the offer, and until then, interviews will be conducted for the alternate list only. After January 15 (when the 45 days are up), you can call back and see exactly how many spots are available based on those who turned them down.
They are absolutely doing more interviews, it's just that they are mostly interviewing for the alternate list.

how late was your application...?

They got everything 11.14.04.
Their webtools says we should wait 4-8 weeks. You should give it a few more weeks. At least you have met the minimum. I have not!

I hope they don't discriminate my casino school - unlv. Seriously, quite a bit of people think we are only good at gambling, but I personally think those cali school students go to casinos more often than us.

A lot of my friends at UCI used to go to Vegas and Pachanga to play poker.

you got your application out too late obviously. but don't give up, there are other good schools out there. although uop is three year program, they charge you a lot.
