Thats amazing, how did they get to your application so fast, you submitted your application on aug 4th! did they already have your DAT scores along with your LORs already? when was your status on UOP complete? thanx and congrats!

Oops, maybe I put the wrong date. I submitted my application May 19th, but AADSAS didn't mail in until Aug. 4th. What date am I supposed to put down on predents? When my app was complete? submitted? mailed?
About a week after my app was mailed, I received the UoP "got your app" letter. I sent in my fee and a few days later it said "File in Review" I think. Or maybe it just said "File Complete" for a while. Don't remember 😳 They had my DAT scores, but my LORs went through AADSAS.

w00t someone else on SDN is interviewing on the 23rd! We may have to go out for coffee beforehand or something!

Sounds good armorshell. You buying? 😀

Finally got a call 😍

Kathy said only one date was left, Nov. 30th (looks like I'll be missing my last day of fall classes) :scared:

Anyone else going on 11/30?

so... pretty much everyone who didnt' get a call from them wont be getting an interview anymore?

I'd imagine they'll have some after December 1st? Not sure, though.

Anyone interviewing on 11/16? I hope the interview before Dec 1st comment was truthful because I am pretty nervous about this interview.

I heard Yarborough talking last night, again, and this time I heard some things that sounded really cool so I thought I'd share:

95% of people who are interviewed were accepted last year.

26 people were accepted after being waitlisted (which means those who might still get later interviews could still have a decent shot of getting in)

hey...sounds pretty sweet to me.

GoDucks, do you go to the U of O? 🙂

I hope that means they're calling all the Oregon people today...😉

Only 9 interview dates before Dec. 1 this year which is similar to previous years. Approximately 9 applicants per interview. If you did get an interview prior to Dec. 1, congrats, you are in. If you didn't get an interview, don't despair. They continue interviewing into March, because not everyone says Yes to Pacific (I can't imagine why).

Hey JavadiCavity...I was wondering if UOP interviewed regionally?
Also, with the class size of 141, and 9 interview dates with 9 people each 81 spots if all are accepted leaves 60 spots left for the rest of us...which isn t that bad right??

Why is it that Pacific accepts students at such a high rate before Dec. 1st? Do they not value the interview that much? I really hope this is true because I would love to go to Pacific. Thanks JavadiCavity.

Nice. I miss it, although I still have friends getting me into football games. GO DUCKS 🙂

Awesome 🙂
The Oregon/Oklahoma game was a popular topic with some of the people I met at my interviews after they found out my undergrad

Yeah, it was pretty controversial. Defending Oregon is hard after watching those replays, but as a fan I must do my part. :meanie:

Pacific doesn't formally interview regionally, at least not that I've heard of. They do visit schools and interview candidates informally. Meaning that Kathy or Dr. Yarborough will sit down one-on-one and talk about a student's application. But, that interview doesn't mean much except that now they can put a face and personality with the name. And, when they get back to San Francisco and come across your file, it might mean more to them.

Those other 60 spots are mostly spoken for already. Each year, Pacific puts X number of folks on the waitlist. If they aren't offered a spot in the class, they are guaranteed a spot in the next year's class. Additionally, Pacific's undergrad campus in Stockton has an agreement with the dental school to hold Y number of spots for students in their accelerated program. So, as of Dec 1, the school officially has around 150 offers out for 143 spots.

That's a good question. I'm not sure why they do that. Perhaps Dr. Yarborough feels confident in his staff's abilities to pick students for an interview, or maybe it is some other reason. But, for a number of years, interviewing students have been told that by making it to the interview stage of the application cycle they have a 95% chance of being accepted. They do value the interview. Essentially, they want to make sure that you are normal and well-adjusted. Assuming you don't rub anyone the wrong way at the interview, you will be just fine come Dec. 1. Pacific's view of the interview is that it is an opportunity for the school to convince the applicant that they want to attend Pacific. Rather than vice versa.

Hey Javadi I have another question for you. Do you know if it is Dr. Yarborough that makes the final decision on applicants or is it another committee? Thanks again for all of your info.

Dr. Yarborough and Dean Ferrillo have the final say on who is accepted.

As a side note here: anyone interested in reading what the first year or so of Dental School is like at Pacific should read Javadi's blog. I got sucked into it yesterday and it is very informative! Plus, Javadi's a pretty cool dude anyways. Check it out (look at his signature).

I guess I'm outa luck for an interview at UOP. Darn.

damn UoP was one of my first choice too....
is there a hope left????

We have similar stats...This year, they must have some very competitive students there. I didn't think it would be this hard if I scored >20.

I just applied to UoP this morning. Subsequently I found this thread. So now I'm burrying my face in my hands and lament on the perfect waste of 200 dollars.

There is just no hope for me is there?

🙁

I feel the same way, and I applied earlier. But i guess it wasn't early enough.

poop. i'm pissed...i love UoP

I'm not sure if my PAT made me look bad on UOP...I got 19. Anyone have PAT 19 or lower but still have an interview call?

AA 22/TS 24/ PAT 19
GPA: 4.0

Hello boys & girls....I just spoke to UoP today and they told me that only the first half of interviews have been given out. Which means there are still plenty left...hope this helps ease some of your worries.

Good luck everybody! 👍

FYI everyone...the girl I spoke told me the truth but not the whole truth. There are still interview positions available but like Envision said they are for waitlisted spots. 😡

So how many interviews do they give out before Dec. 1? I didn't really believe it before, but now I'm getting my hopes up for an acceptance. 🙄

Yeah I agree, this is confirming what Javadi said. As long as we arent jerks in the interview we should be okay. From what I saw off Predents.com, a lot of people that interviewed after Dec 1st got a spot in the class. Good luck everyone.

So if we interview before Dec 1, we will get notification of a decision on Dec 1?

If you guys get the acceptance from Uop on Dec 1, how many of you will take that offer immediately?

Well, since I haven't seen the place before I can't be sure . . . but I'm leaning towards "yes." 😀

I will be interviewing at UoP 10/30. If the offer is there Dec 1st, I will be first in line to sign my life away.

UOP higly recommends (although not required) anatomy, physiology, bioChem, micro biology & histology....anyone completed all of them? If not, which ones are taking or plan to take?

I would accept for sure. To answer pmt16, I have taken Physio, Micro, and Biochem....and will be taking anatomy and histology in the spring. I have been told that these courses are more than "recommended courses" so I think it would be a wise investment to try and cram them in. Good luck to all!

Got all of them...but no interview yet🙁 I'm not to worried though😉
