Sorry if these versus threads are getting sort of annoying, but I really would value everyone's input on the matter.

I've thought about it quite some time and I'm still absolutely not 100% sure.

USC - (Pros) Name recognition, strong alumni base, metropolitan location, I've already paid the deposit, family nearby an hour away (Cons) Old Facilities, High Cost, Dislike thier Office of Student Affairs Employees

Western - (Pros) Great technologically advanced facilities, their curriculum (Cons) High Cost, not as much name recognition as USC, sort of far from metro LA b/c located in Pomona

UOP - (Pros) three year program, new facilities for 2nd years (Cons) Stockton area is boring, fast paced curriculum may be very difficult

I know its ultimately my decision and trust me it will be, I would just highly value everyone opinions.

Thank you in advance

easy decision.

You only have to put up with the facility and the staff for 4 years...but the association with a great school will be with you for the rest of your life.

It may not mean much to you now..but there is nothing like seeing your school win a national championship in football...or when people recognize you're an SC grad.. I don't even live in CA...but being a SC RX grad is very recognizable...

Go SC.

yup, like zpack says -> easy decision

USC

I know you might dislike their employees and I feel the same way. But if I got accepted, I wouldn't turn it down. But I guess you'll also have to take into consideration what are your future goals - retail? residency? research?

Thanks for the responses!

I'm really not sure what I'm going into after pharmacy school, right now i'm leaning towards retail just b/c I want to pay off my loans right away, but the thing I love about pharmacy is that there are lots of options to choose from.

I hope this doesn't make Zpak fall in front of his RV wheels as Sarah drives down their loooooong Texas driveway......but - I'd have to agree with him😱

It by far has greater recognition than the others....but it always, always comes down to - what will you do with this opportunity you have been presented???

You may find yourself in a difficult (which has been described on here endlessly.....) retail situation. If you never find that within yourself to be a great, assertive & progressive pharmacist - no school will make it happen. They then all become the same. But, I can assure you that in 4 years, if you go to USC, you'll be able to go anywhere if retail at that time is not your cup of tea.

Now - I expect when I am in my dotage (nooooo - Caverject....please don't comment🙁 !) I may change my opinion.

But - that is where I stand right now on your choices.

Good luck & welcome!

Now....if UCSF had been in the mix - it would have been a slam-dunk 🙂laugh:  get it - a basketball joke & we don't even have teams😀 ).

Gotcha Zpak!

I know a guy who is graduating from Western soon. He loves his school. One interesting thing is he says their learning is "blocked" meaning they only learn one subject at a time. Apparently every month they start on a new subject (but never focus on more than one subject). I like the sound of that.

I don't know where I would go out of those choices because I don't like football and find USC fans annoying (sorry 😀 dont mean to offend anyone).

I want to go to UCSD or UCS but I might consider Western.

Someone can correct me, but I believe USC's first two years are block system also.

Was it first two, or 2nd and 3rd? Though the explanation seemed somewhat different from Westerns in terms of how the blocks worked.

Well, I know the great thing about USC (that I actually would have liked) is that all of their first year classes are from 8am-12pm everyday, plus an additional lab or externship or meeting on a couple afternoons. Something like that. And then second year is 1-5pm. Or something to that affect. Maybe that's what they consider a "block" system.

*waits for a current USC student to chime in*

For me...I chose UOP over USC and Western (I declinded both interviews once I heard from UOP) It's a great school, close to home for me, and a 3 year program! I'll be out 1 year earlier...meaning I'll save money in schooling and become a pharmacist 1 year earlier. 🙂

My cousin is a recent graduate from UOP and she chose it over USC mostly because of the 3 year thing and because it'll be cheaper. She's currently working at a hospital in Southern California without a residency. It really all depends on what you value more: connections, money, time?
