Does anyone know exactly what's going on with UOP? lots of rumors going round...

Rumors about what?

Rumors fly all the time around this place. Normally about who is dating who...

What rumors have you heard so I can make sure I let the rest of my class in on them?

o not that kinda rumor, what i meant was the interview rumors. R they giving them out to reapp. right now or are they actually starting early already?

I heard during their interviews, they bring out a goat and a knife, and ask you to sacrifice it for the UOP Gods. And if you don't do it... well, let's just say that you won't be going to dental school for a LONG TIME... and somehow you get Herpes. I swear... that's a true story I made up.

Yeah, it's kinda strange that the school has already started inviting a few people. Those people say they are neither reapplicants nor legacy. And they don't have stats like 3.9+/25+. I'm curious what's going on.

i say liars!

yeah, i'm really curious about those invites too. I got a letter from Pacific saying that they don't even offer invites until october...so...who knows.

I'll bring an extra goat.

mmmmmmmmmmm.......goat meat.....

I know it to be a fact that there have been zero interview invites. So those people are not telling the truth or are confused. End of thread.

How do you know? Did you call the school? This is strange. 😕

Yes, I have spoken with someone at the school.

...so is that supposed to make us five people want to contribute to the OP's question of whether or not UOP is sending out interviews?

I got a call from them this past weekend, and an email confirmation shortly afterward. I'm sure you guys'll all be hearing more from the school not to far from now and from other people that get invites too! If I'm "special" as someone else put it, the only only reason is that I submitted as quick as I humanly could.

lol, well, now im still really confused. Congrats to those that got interviews. I did notice a trend though. Seems like committee went for dats and not gpas at all.

Just a question, but why would you, or anyone for that matter, want to go to UOP? Their tuition is like 50 grand a year, not including fees that will/can easily bump that up to 75. Is your GPA really that low?

Are you saying you wouldn't take an acceptance at UoP just because of price? I agree that price is an important factor in deciding what school to attend but I think UoP is a great school and would go there in a heartbeat if I was accepted.

Yeah, I am saying I would turn them down in a heartbeat if they accepted me , but then again, I would never apply to such a school. There is simply no way I want to pay off 250 grand when I know I can get the same deal for 100 to 150 MAX. You must be really desperate if you apply to a school like that (i.e NYU, Tufts, Boston) because dental schools are way less costly in general if you have a 3.5+ GPA (except for possibly if you're out-of-state). In fact, I am willing to bet no one at NYU has a GPA above 3.5, otherwise they wouldn't be there.

It is expensive but you are done in 3! If you are young, then time is not an issue, but when you are old, then saving a year can be worth the extra cash spent. If I fail to get into a TX school, then any out of state school will be expensive. So, I rather spend a little more and get done earlier. If I was younger, I would agree with you...only to be young again. 🙄

Please pardon my ignorance, I didn't know it was a 3-year DDS program, and the only one in the US at that, until I looked just now. In that situation, it's worth every penny. I will sell my soul to graduate a year earlier.

On a separate note, I wonder what the stress there is like though. 4-year was unimaginable from what I've read...but 3? Apparently I didn't know there is more than 24 hours in a day. Anyone care to emphasize?

Even if UoP were a 4 year program, I would still be willing to fork out the cash for it. Honestly, the 150k difference is not that big a deal to me when I consider the excellent facilities, curriculum, and general atmosphere. If you run your practice right, that 150k should be payed off in a few short years.

I'm starting to believe that the school started early this year and those people with interview invites had their files on the top of everyone else's.

I also got a voicemail this morning from someone named Jennelle from UOP. She told me to call her back to schedule an interview. My friend who's a first year at UOP dental told me that that was the same person that called him to tell him that he had an interview.

I'm pretty excited =)

I got a call from Janelle at UOP yesterday and I have to say that I am lying and I also received an email from them. It is a great school with great facilities, faculty, and students. I currently go to the undergrad campus and I am I believe the first student from the undergrad campus to get an interview offer. Everyone on predents.com that got interviews are from other schools, so I believe that the people who applied early will here back soon.

I doubt it because mine was verified on 05/28 and sent out on 06/16.
But, I think mine may have been pushed back a little because of new revision which was sent out on 06/30.

i don't understand the low gpa thing. wouldn't those schools (UOP and NYU) give acceptance to applicants with over 3.5 first anyway?

But, one of them has said he submitted on June 2nd, which means that there is no way his app was sent out in the first batch. You see what I'm saying?

It seems that adcom are updating the school website more often than last year. If the account still says 'waiting for review' tomorrow afternoon, it means they haven't looked at the application. But, if it says 're-review' or something similar.....

i don't know if this helps, but on the uop check status page it says that my application was received by uop on 7/7/08. I submitted on 6/2/08 and i don't think it was sent out with the first batch.

I was checking predents as people posted interview dates and noticed that "yayforcoffee" had gotten a call earlier than me although she submitted on 6/7/08.

My guess is that they have a large pile of applications and they are going through them picking out one by one without necessarily going in order of date submitted. I'm sure you'll all hear back very very soon.

The UOP status page is updated once a week on friday. What you don't want to see is "file reviewed, no decision" because I got that last year and it was just a long lag time before I got a rejection letter.

Best of luck to everyone!!! try checking out

you can post questions to uop students and they answer pretty quickly.

OK. Mine finally says "File is in Review." Time to pray! :luck:

Question for everyone:

Did they accept AP CREDIT for you? Especially Chemistry...

And does anyone have an email address for the Admissions dept? Can't find it on the website...

thankss

Amen, Bruinlove. Status changed to "File in Review" Where did that goat go?

lol, i dont know if thats a good thing. Well, better than file reviewed, no decision i suppose. But waht happens if we were the ones that they looked over already to pick out the 7 ppl? LOL, yea praying sounds good.

for those of you who got an interview, how long did it take from "in review" till the phone call??

-crossing fingers and hoping too!! :scared:

Did any of you guys who have your "file's in review" have the App Fee Paid changed from No to Yes, and have the Letters of Evaluations Section filled? UoP received my application 6/26/08 and fee's early June, but is still Unreviewed because I just sent my DAT scores out a few days ago. Hopefully they'll update it next Friday? I don't want to have to send another $75 check and mail out all my letters again.

Yes, they changed the App fee from No to Yes and filled out the Letters of Evaluation section with the initials of each evaluator.

ddsbruin,

Just to let you know, they received my app. on 6/25, my check on 5/30, and my letters on 6/13. It took them until 7/18 to update the status of their web-page and indicate receipt of all of these materials. The point I'm trying to make is they probably have your stuff, but they have yet to process it all. It couldn't hurt to give 'em a call and check. Better safe than sorry. Hope this helps.

REH

Well I just went out and bought two goats...my "file is in review". My letters were received on 6/30 and my application was received on 6/25 and they didn't update their website until 7/18 like REH so I agree with him. They probably have your stuff but haven't updated yet.

phew, thanks for the reassurance guys! i'll check again next friday. hopefully i'll get lucky 🙂
