So I've been emailing schools asking for various information. I had said that I graduated from college in 2009, and was looking to apply to dental school in the near future, etc. One school replied saying...

It is recommended for applicants who have been graduated for a number of years to consider taking a sufficient course load of more up to date courses, typically science are recommended. If able to enroll and complete a Master's degree (something in the Biomedical Sciences is suggested) this would be best. This is encouraged to insure that you have a competitive application at the time you apply.

Should I really consider that after being out of school since December of 2009 (diploma says February 2010)?

You have three choices: 1. get a clarification from the ds; 2. ignore the recommendation or 3. seriously consider their recommendation.

My English courses were accepted and I completed them in 2001 🙂 granted its not a science course but I would call and speak to the school. Most d-schools don't have a 10 yr rule, unlike med schools. So in theory you should be safe wherever you apply.

Well, this was BU, which I don't think I'd end up going to anyway, haha. I'm from the Boston area so I was asking them some stuff, as well as contacting them for my "online classes" project that I was telling you about. I just wasn't sure if this was a stance that a lot of d-schools took. I was under the impression that classes would have to be much older than a few years for it to be problematic.

I suppose once I have an official list of schools that I know I'll want to apply to, I can present that question to them at that time.

Will they accept your online course?

I don't think they are necessarily worried about your coursework being outdated. They want to make sure that your study skills are still sharp.

Yeah they will.

good for you. I figured they would they wanted to accept my calculus and i got a D in it 😀 shows the real strength of their program.
