If I had a publication accepted today (second author) and I plan on submitting an update for those who accept them, how do I send it since it isn't indexed on pubmed yet and has no PMID?

I know I can put the citation etc. but am I supposed to add a link to it as well or DOI or something? As of now it's online but not one of the big name publishers like elsevier etc. so it doesn't come up with a quick google search since its so new

The reason I'm asking is because it's part of a new journal (it's peer reviewed and the editor in chief is faculty at one of the schools I applied to) I'm just not sure how to present it since I assume nobody has ever heard of it besides a select few

Thanks for the help

I would wait until DOI comes out or PubMed searchable. Although a reference to the article is usually good enough for the purpose of the update. E.g. title of paper, your authorship order, journal name, expected published date.

Thats what I thought too I just don't know how long that takes, like if its > than one month idk if I should wait because there are some places I applied to that are receptive to updates who have started rejecting people (I havent heard yet)

In my updates, I just said that I had a publication accepted in [x journal], and I had luck this way. However, my updates were more "don't forget about me!!!" letters than actual updates

Since it's online, provide the URL. Google "How to cite an online-only article."

I didn't update yet as I was told it would be published sometime this week (in which I assume there will be some sort of DOI etc.) I only updated the one school so far where the head of this journal is faculty.

I'm in my second gap year and I'm getting a grade in one of my night classes like January 6th. It should be an A in an advanced organic chem class and would reinforce my upward trend although I know its only one class. Do you think its fine to wait to send an update so I can include this? I cant see much action going on between now and a little after New Years but I don't want to wait too long if there actually are some rejections being sent etc. Thanks for the help

I agree that at most med schools most admissions committees are doing less work and taking a break starting about now, including office staffers. So waiting til January 6 for the update is fine.

I am tracking a just-published article myself, which has a DOI, but no PMID# yet, and can see that articles 2 weeks+ older in the same journal can be found on the Searchable PubMed website to have a PMID#. So hopefully, yours will, too, by 1/6/18.

Does your journal have a Just Accepted section? Many journals have specific sections on their websites for papers that have been accepted but not yet officially published. These papers are available in galley proof form and anyone can access them with the right URL.

Yes its online now as a PDF, I'm just worried that since its a new journal (and as a result a new website) that the layout of the site might change and the actual link may also change. I thought I should wait a little in order to make sure the link will always be the same because I don't want to include a link that actually may be defunct in a few days. I could PM you the link if you don't mind if you just want to see what i mean
