Okay be gentle I’m no researcher... but I was going to send a updates to a couple school with a substantial update that I have a new job and then also add in a small blurb about doing a poster session as well.

As the title says I was NOT an author on this poster l, but I was asked to submit and present it as I’m now the person leading the follow up projects, so I’m super comfortable with the research. My PI has really encouraged me to include this in my update but not sure how it looks. What do you guys think?

For context, I would say research is the biggest weakness of my application and im waiting to hear back from some research heavy hitters. Thanks guys!

Personally, I don't think it'll be useful but at this point it's not gonna really hurt you. Best case it helps you with some of the research schools, worst case it doesn't have any effect at all and you're right where you are anyway.

If you’re not an author on the poster, I personally wouldn’t mention it. It’s not going to impress research-heavy schools - if anything, it just draws more attention to a weakness in your application.

Update the schools that you have a new job and that you have represented your research group at xyz meeting or whatever it was the hosted the poster presentation. I think that "represented my research group" is better than saying you presented a poster that you were not an author of..

Ya I agree I think that sounds better okay cool will do!

In the future, if you're asked to submit and present a poster you should consider having a discussion with your PI about authorship - if you're familiar enough with the project and contributed enough to submit and represent it, you're likely involved enough in the project to have a serious discussion about whether your contribution merits authorship on the project.

Yeah, OP you got screwed - not being listed as an author while presenting the poster is BS.

I doubt that this is going to make a huge difference one way or another, and on its own it certainly isn't worth sending an update about.
