I was wondering if an update letter regarding some summer school courses would be effective in helping me get an interview.

The problem is, I applied to around 25+ schools. Do I have to mail them out individually?

Maybe, and yes. Check the status pages. Some schools will let you email or upload an update letter. The others you will have to mail it to individually (unless this could be done via Interfolio - I have NO idea). And yes, I have seen people post about how their update letters and letters of interest got them an interview invite - by showing their interest in the school. Not sure how persuasive summer class grades will be, but it can't hurt if you do well.

It can't possibly hurt.

If the secondary is still pretty freshly "reviewed" or whatever lingo that particular school uses, I suggest that you maybe hold off on sending an update letter to that school.

This will give you sometime to update about if they don't invite you for an interview after a while. As in, it's hard for a letter that just says "I'm still interested" to stand out unless you have some additional new stuff to let them know about. If you play your cards now, then you don't necessarily have something else later (well, you could, and that'd be great).

Anyway, it's just something to consider. There'd be no real harm in sending it now, of course.
