Update letter timing: pre- or post-interview?

I have substantial updates in the pipes and was wondering when I should update schools. Which generally has more impact? For schools I have not received interviews at, should I wait until I am invited to interview or update them now to potentially garner an invitation?

Like what? Hard to advise without knowing what the updates are and if they are going to plug a hole in your application. And many schools don’t take updates at all. But I think the general consensus is to wait until after you interview.

Interested in the consensus answer as well. Just had a co-author publication be accepted and published (waiting on PMID). Was also wondering whether I should send updates to schools I haven't received IIs at yet (particularly research-heavy schools).
