Just an update for those of you who were scaring the crap out of me and saying that I will be expelled from Med School.... Things turned out fairly well. I had the opportunity to talk to the person who was threatening to report me to the dean for unprofessional behavior in Anatomy lab and basically said that I was terribly sorry and it was a slip. We made amends and things worked out well. Nonetheless, I'm going to get myself checked out because I think I have some manifest psychological issues that I need to be address.

It also maybe helped me that there is fairly lax standards with regard to professionalism in the anatomy lab at my university and several students do "play around" for lack of better words. I think my partner recognized the tendency for us to get a bit lax in regards to constantly respecting the cadaver since our curriculum is organized such that anatomy is an entire year in length.

No idea what people were smoking on that other thread saying you were gonna get expelled. Glad it worked out for you OP. And I apologize if the last thread made you unnecessarily anxious

This thread and the other one actually reminds me of an old story on this forum I sometimes reread when I nead some inspiration.
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/dismissed-from-medical-school-at-end-of-3rd-year.771708/

The TLDR version is that this guy got dismissed after the end of 3rd year due to extensive professionalism difficulties like repeated tardiness, disorganized write-ups, barely passing step 1, not fulfilling other academic obligations etc that were all second to poorly controlled ADHD. The guy took time to properly adjust his meds, switched to a carribean school, aced his step 2 and a bunch of electives, and eventually matched into a neurology program where he is now apparantly doing very well as a resident. Obviously OP's situation wasn't anywhere NEAR that dramatic, but I sometimes read it both to give myself some confidence and also as a reminder that medical school isn't the be all end all of your career, but only a very very small piece of it.

OP, did not face displinary action because the other student did not end up turning them in. I feel it would have gone a little differently if the student had turned them into the administration. Raising the decapitated head of a donated cadaver as a joke is too egregious to overlook.

The OP never got reported to the administration. That things went well for him has nothing to do with the views of his school's administration. Therefore, your post makes no sense here.
Oh okay, well then glad SJW person had a little bit of sense.

He should have definitely been expelled for this IMO. And this is coming from someone who is very frequently taking the side of the prosecuted students in threads like these. I just think doing something like this when the person donated their body so you could study it is just so beyond the pale that it shows either
1. A completely amoral person who cannot be trusted with a medical license or
2. An extremely immature human who is nowhere near ready for the responsibility of making life or death decisions on a daily basis.

The mere fact he made this thread to say, "haha" to the people who said he would be expelled pretty much proves my point about the immaturity.

Also the school is really creating a serious future problem for themselves if their body donator base discovers that a student did this and wasnt even punished. I hope they do find out, and the school has a lot of trouble procuring cadavers in the future.

Up to me? Not only would I see this kid expelled, I would have him arrested for desecration of a corpse if such a law existed in my jurisdiction.

A Big lesson that I learned is that SDN caters to a population of med students and physicians with a more extreme POV than the regulars medical student/physician population. Normally I refrain from using negative language, but seeing as how some of the above posters are, I might as well. My observations on SDN? To put it lightly.... 1/3 of you are hardcore gunners. 1/3 of you are extremists, and 1/3 of you are normal, helpful people.

I.E. Cbrons....Getting Expelled, punishing the entire school and having myself arrested? You are insane.

Also, I did not "Desecrate" a corpse and the terminology and spin you are all putting to it is horrible. Desecrating a corpse in my mind is taking a poop on it, or assaulting it, or performing sexual acts on it. None of which occurred!!

I was posting this because I believe an update is useful because people on this forum have a TENDENCY to give BAD ADVICE (though some of your suggestions were really helpful for me). And I do think it is important for people to know that giving advice, even if it is online, can have a significant impact on people.

By definition, it's a pretty broad term that is up to interpretation. I did not see the incident so I cannot state either for or against whether you did or not, but you should consider yourself lucky that this is where the matter dies (pun not intended).

Are you planning for a career in administration or academic medicine in the future? Just curious. I think you'd fit right in.

It is good as long as you actually understand that your behavior was wrong.

OP, I'm happy for you that the incidents didn't have negative repercussions for you. However, I implore you to still put intense effort into self-improvement.
Also, recognize that your normative boundaries differ from those of others (e.g. what is considered desecration of a body) and, both as a professional and a decent human being, in many situations the latter warrants heavy consideration if not primacy in your judgement.

You must be brand new to these forums. This must be the first thread ever that I didnt take the side of a student in an issue like this. In fact, Im probably one of the most outspoken critics of med school administrators and the powers that be.

I dunno. It's extremely inappropriate to play around like that with a body donated for scientific advancement, but the seriousness of the violation depends on circumstances. Did the OP raise it for a second, or was he brandishing it while bellowing, "Such shall be the fate of the enemies of the king!!!"?

Be sure to follow through on this. It could save a lot of heartache for you, your colleagues, and patients in the future, and potentially save your career.

Reminds me of the dude from my bio lab who decapitated the baby pig's head and decided to chop it in pieces.

That was the first time I had ever seen a grown man giggling out of control as if he were a 7 year old watching nonstop replays of Angry Birds with a tub of candy and popcorn.

*cue shivering reflex*
