I am currently waitlisted at a school that is one of my top choices. They are not receptive to updates or letters of interest/intent until they tell you you can send those things in May. In my secondary application to that school, I mentioned my gap year job.

If I were to receive an acceptance (edit: from a different school) and then quit my gap year job, would I have to include in my update in May that I'm no longer working for the company? Or could I just talk about the positives and only mention that I quit if they ask?

If I did continue working my gap year job, would it be something that I should mention in my update? I feel it's not significant enough to include something like "Oh by the way, you know that thing I said I was doing in my secondary? Yeah, I'm still doing that!"

Thanks for your help!

I don't think you need to update them on anything except transcripts once you're accepted

Sorry I was unclear! I meant if I receive an acceptance from a different school, quit my job afterwards, and remain on this waitlist to try to get accepted to this school.

Ohhh I personally wouldn't tell them I quit my job in an update. That seems counterintuitive. I doubt they'll ask you since you've already interviewed and everything. I'd say just mention things that would help you as long as those are even worthwhile.

A lot of the time on here most people say unless the school tells you they welcome updates then don't send them since it might appear desperate. Personally if you have a new publication or a lot of new experiences that this school would care about then go for it.

Why do you think that the Admission dean would think this is a good thing????
Most med schools don't care where you have another accept.

It works like this:
Drexel won't care if you're accepted at Albany
Harvard won't care if you're accepted at Albany
Drexel will care if you're accepted at Harvard but want to go to Drexel.
Harvard will probably care if you're accepted at Yale.

Capeesh?

I don’t think this is what OP was asking. He/she seems to be asking whether they need to mention they quit their gap year job in an update (he/she quit after being accepted to another school). My answer would be no. You do not need to volunteer information like that unless you are asked. Frankly, I’m not sure they would really care anyhow, provided you are using your time productively.

I agree...the Dean wouldn't care if quit your job. SDNers need to understand that we want to see what you have done, not what you say you want to do, because words are easy, doing is harder.

Good news: nobody reads updates.

You don't have an obligation to mention that you quit a job, unless you are specifically asked.

And they won't ask.

So stick to pertinent positives. If you got another job to replace the one where you quit, that's fine to mention.
