So has anyone ever heard of someone sending update/letter of intent sort of thing to the faculty interviewer, especially for a school where the interviewer is very involved in the decision? I was thinking this would be a little more personal, in addition to emailing just the general email address with the letter. Also, they may be more likely to recognize the additions and bring them up to the adcom. What are your thoughts?

Specifically: I am sending a post-interview update regarding an additional letter of recommendation. Also, I will include this with my letter of intent for my top choice school, and a "letter of interest" to my 2nd/3rd choices.

Well part of this question I think is how much impact a interviewer can have after they have written the report too.

I say go for it. I mean, as long as it's not annoying. I don't think he'd actually go to the trouble to say something bad about you if it annoyed him...worst case scenario is he doesn't read it at all, best case, he reads it, runs into the admissions office and clicks the "Accepted" button next to your name in the secret database on the computer inside the massive vault.

What's the difference between letter of intent and letter of interest? Is it that intent = "I will withdraw from all other schools immediately if I am accepted" and interest says "I am very interested in attending your school, I think it would be a very good fit for me?" If so, do schools care at all if you send a letter of interest, since you could send the same thing to all the schools you apply to without lying?

I'd say everyone interprets what the different types of letters are but for me:

Letter of interest: You are at the top of my list for medical schools
Letter of intent: I will attend no questions asked if accepted

Calling it a certain kind of letter doesn't really mean anything, its what you say in the body.
