updating bad grades

This fall during the application cycle, my semester gpa came to 3.56. recieved a B in physical chem I (A- in its lab), and a B+ in genetics, A- in creative writing, A in cell bio, and an A in research. this caused my cumulative 3.73 to go to 3.71. i am still waiting for some interviews and wanted to update my application. i did some shadowing over the break and have some extra curriculars i wanted to let them know about. should i include the grades as well. not including them may be indicitive to them that i puposely do not want to share the the grades. but including them may hurt my application.

please help

An update on your grades is not expected. Don't include any information that doesn't put you in a good light. You have postive things to say, so stick to them, adding why you think each school is a perfect fit for you.

I read recently here that 4 years ago, a guy who got accepted into Hopkins almost got his offer rescinded when he got an F.

And I probably wont get an F... but what if I get a C? What happens if my GPA drops to a 3.7?

Are my offers going to be rescinded?

I think I read that thread... To make an incredibly long story short, if I recall corectly, the student started earning many poor marks (including multiple F's) after he was accepted. He cited medical reasons, I believe pneumonia, anxiety, depression, and possibly others, as cause for these poor marks. To make a long story short, he learned that yes, schools can and do rescind acceptances for unacceptable performance. Fortunately, in his case, everything worked out, although it was a very stressful roller coaster ride.

Now will one C cause a school to rescind their offer? From what I have read, not likely, but depends on the school. I believe there are multiple threads that discuss - if you're interested, do a search for the word rescind and see what you get... But keep in mind, oftentimes it is just speculation of other premeds. I think the best answer I have read is if you are truly concerned, contact the school, because there is no one answer that will apply to every situation. And the best solution is just keep it to A's and B's ;-)

It wound up working out for that guy.

He had multiple F's and incompletes, but still managed to pull it off and graduate. And he is graduating from Hopkins this year. I would not beat yourself up over those grades. Some people who get into med school consider those pretty good grades.

Just reading that thread shows how nightmarish this entire application process really is.

He really is one lucky fellow. Though, I can assure you that getting one C will not result in a rescinding of acceptance in comparison to what this guy went through.

I want to update NYU on my progress. I haven't finished publishing so it would only be about grades-unless it's ok to just talk about the lab progress you've made?

My grades are good save for one, I'm talking 4 A's in sci classes and one C in another sci class.

How do I go about keeping my file fresh on their minds?

Just don't include your grades in your update.
