Hi all,

I've been preparing for the application cycle to reopen in June. This is my second time applying, and when contacting the dean of admissions to discuss improvements, he recommended that I should try to update the letters of recommendation that I already received.

I'm still in constant contact with my previous professors, so the issue isn't getting them to update it. The issue is why it needs to be updated. The only thing really different from my position then and now is volunteer work and shadowing, two aspects in which I don't think really pertain to my academic LoRs. I understand how it can be incorporated in the dental one, however.

Anyway, for those two/three time applicants, can anyone explain if that's something that's normally done, and explain what sort of changes you emphasized to your academic professors?

Thanks,

CC

Application cycle opens in June of 2017 not May.
I think you can talk to your academic professors and ask them to talk about your volunteer work as well. Also, you could ask another professor to write you a LOR to give the adcoms a new perspective of your academic abilities. Basically, adcoms want to know if you have done anything different from the last cycle. If yes, can someone other than yourself talk about them...Also, try applying to couple of schools that you did not apply this last cycle.

How is your GPA and DAT?

I marched with The Cadets back in 2011/12. Nice to see a fellow drum corps supporter here!

Ahh, sorry. I assume you can get the information entered in come May.

I've only taken one course since last cycle (a Biochem prereq), I've talked to him, but a letter seems unlikely (as I approached him in February for this and he says he's in the midst of writing 30+ at the moment). My GPA is 3.51, DAT is 17 (which will be retaken in June, studying for the grind now to get 20+).

I'm not sure how the other aspects are taken into consideration, but I know they mainly look at GPA and DAT averages.

I love it when theres a drum corps community in areas like this! I marched Crown 2014/15 myself. Hopefully it adds a little flare to the resume 😉
