Any news anybody?!
when i got my invite it was on tuesday at 2:40 pm eastern time... so check your mail later today and maybe they will send another round out🙂
edit: oo just realized i assumed you meant interview invite because i didn't know if you had an interview last fri or not lol good luck guys!
I have propped my cell phone up on my lab bench, but I still can't seem to get much work done.

No. Just staring at my phone for the past 3 hours.
Me too. It looks like the group before us got their calls around 3-4 pm EST. I suppose I should do something productive until then...but I won't.
Whether you're waiting for an invite or acceptance call, I wish you all the best of luck! Now I have to leave the house and get away from any connection to my email or I'm going to have a meltdown. Honestly.
Just got the email for waitlist! I guess my interview went ok then, yay!
I have "Hold" status. What does that mean? Waitlist?

I think that means waitlist. Thats what I got.
There's a past thread about this:

It looks like "hold" and "waitlist" are two different things.

I hope it works out for the best for you guys!
Did anyone receive an interview invitation today?

I was just going to ask the same thing. Anyone?
Are the people still waiting for an interview equine people? Just wondering, because I am.
so i guess hold is actually better than waitlist! they will review your file again later and come to a unanimous decision so you could still possibly be accepted or waitlisted.
I wouldn't say that it's better than waitlist. There is, of course, the possibility of a rejection, but I like your positive thinking! 🙂
As far as I've heard, no one has gotten invites today, and yes, I'm also an equine person waiting (hoping!) for an invite.

Me too.

Four.
STILL freaking out! Got the acceptance call at around 4 pm today - had my cell phone on all day at work and bolted to take the call when I saw the area code. I didn't think I would start crying on the phone, but that went right out the window. 🙂 Can't believe I actually am going to be a veterinarian!!!

Congrats NittanyKitty!!http://forums.studentdoctor.net/member.php?u=187478
I have to admit, I am breathing a little bit (teeny, tiny bit) easier knowing that a lot of us equine people are waiting for news.
I am doing my damnedest to will an interview invite!! Does that work? I really need it to work at this point!! Which is sad, because I felt really good about my application this year. Blah!

WOOHOO NittanyKitty! Congrats!!!
I don't think it hit me until a few days after my acceptance to realize that I was actually going to become a vet... and it was in the form of "OMG in 5 years, I'm not going to have to pay any vet bills anymore!!! Woohoo, I can adopt a sick puppy/kitty without worrying about it!"

Is there one?
Congrats NittanyKitty. I am so excited for you!!!

Hooray Nittany!

Four.
I put down research as my top choice and I haven't heard anything yet either. Maybe some more invites today

Congrats to everyone that has been accepted!! And good luck to you all with interviews coming up.

oh no they're sending out the equine invites?! so if I don't get an email today it's safe to assume I'm not getting an interview?

Good question.

I don't know, but my inbox is empty and my left eyeball has developed a nervous twitch 🙁.
Congrats to those who've gotten invites, and to NittanyKitty for your acceptance!
Congrats everyone! That is so exciting!
Don't stress too much about the outfit (although obviously I did, lol).
You don't need serious farm footwear, at least for my equine day last year we got a bus tour of NBC and then walked around the equine hospital. I wouldn't wear serious heels, but no need to bust out the wellies. I wore some plain dress shoe with a half inch heel.
Last year the description was to wear "dress casual" I think. There was quite a range of outfits from full suits to jeans. I wore my suit pants with a nice sweater and felt totally appropriate. I also think the people in complete suits were totally fine, even if it they were slightly overdressed. What I wouldn't do is wear jeans 😉 Always safer to be slightly overdressed.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask (either here or PM)! I remember being in your shoes and completely freaking out 😀

I am wearing my suit for sure since its a really nice one and I dont want it to go to waste. However, as far a shoes i might have to make a few adjustments. The ones i have are pretty tall to accommodate for my short stature 😀. Maybe just some shorter heels, I would feel a bit silly in my nice suit with boots on

So I spent the past hour or so perusing the old threads, and from what I gather there were at least two equine/LA days at New Bolton last year. Also, it looks like there are still quite a few of us equine people who haven't received invites yet (or perhaps they're out celebrating rather than updating SDN), so here's hoping...

Super excited for those of you who have already received invites. Last year's interviewees raved about New Bolton on the old Penn thread, and it sounds like a really fun day 🙂

OK, this makes me feel significantly better about my conspicuous lack of email from Penn. 😉
*keeps hoping*

I called Penn admin today and the man said they are still have many decisions to make for interviews in Feb
trying not to lose hope...

Me too! I'm back to feeling hopeful!

Congratulations to the people who received the invites today!

Thanks for all of the congrats - still floating on Cloud Nine somewhere! 🙂 I can't wait until so many of you also get the same news (believe me, you can't beat this feeling).
And major congrats on all of the equine and large animal interviews!!! You will all LOVE New Bolton. I got to work there in the summer of 2008, and the facilities and people are just incredible. You're all going to do amazing!

Thank you for cheering me up! Instead of going back to last years threads I was trying to figure out how many equine/LA people hadn't heard anything, but your evidence is much more concrete/hopeful!
I wore pretty much what tpad did last year, and felt very comfortable (ie not "out of place.") I did wear ballet flats though. Others wore a skirt and flat knee boots, Danskos, etc. Some even wore paddock boots, but I would be sure to make sure that they are cleaned and polished! As tpad said, I wouldn't wear jeans...and I also wouldn't wear tall heels as you do walk around and stand quite a bit.
You will be walking around outdoors and in unheated barns, so make sure you wear something warm, but will also be hanging out in a classroom for a while, so make sure you can strip off your outerwear so you don't get too sweaty before your interview!

I'm not sure your taste in sweaters can be trusted.... 😀
What, an embroidered golfing sweater lacks taste?
See, this is why you should all come to Penn, where we have ugly sweater parties and dogs at happy hour!
So, did anyone interview today? If so, how did it go? 🙂
I hope everyone who interviewed today had a good day!!
I have another question for you guys who are already at UPenn..
did you need to get your rabies vaccines before matriculating in the fall?
if so does Penn insurance cover it?
Im pretty sure my current insurance doesn't cover it and i'd rather not pay the money now if it would be covered later. but at the same time if its not going to be covered later, I might as well go about trying to find the vaccines now.

Hi! The 3 vaccines were covered by the Penn Health Insurance Plan for those who had the Penn insurance. The vaccines were given on set days at Student Health - everyone signed up during orientation for times on certain Vet School Rabies Nights and then they went. No big deal. 🙂
If you aren't planning on getting the Penn Health Insurance (you have to have insurance of some sort, but some folks are able to stay on their parents'), you still may want to get them at student health. My dad is a doctor and ordered the vaccines for me (I had to have them a few years earlier because of a volunteer position), and we still paid more "at cost" than they charge at Student Health.

That website has all the info. There are other links on the left side of the page that are also helpful! One word of advice, just as an FYI if you do start poking around the website- don't go ahead and buy all the recommended texts-you don't need them all!
Does this mean you're definitely planning on coming to Penn!?
