hi everyone,

I just met Dr. Hangorsky and Dr. Ibrahim today.....

PASS 2010 will have 28 people...congrats!

and someone pm me...so i just want to share it here...if u can reach others, so just let them know....I know you are excited to come here..I will see you at lunch on March 31 at noon!...

1. How is the Pre–Enrollment course from April- June structured?

since you are from different countries, so summer class will be the class for you to know about PENN way....what we do at PENN..u cannot depend on what u have done before in your country....we just discussed today and i know the faculties try to help you guys before you go to the clinic. Don't forget after summer program, you go to the clinic right away!...u can be confused (u will be i am sure)...so we try to tell you what u will see in the clinic here (materials, techniques, using rubber dam, post and core, tooth setting, RPD, etc)

A.Do we have lectures or lab/chair work or both?

u will have both lecture and lab work...no grade at all but u need pas grade from Dr. Ibrahim (everyone will pass, but some will fail first before you pass)....no patient for u in summer but u wil have patients in the clinic on your on month. For lectures, they will try to teach u all they have taught regular students here...so they want you to know about PENN way...and i really want all of you know that summer is the great time for you to know your friends....u should know each other well...they will be your friends and they will be your helpers at PENN when u have problems....

B.If there are lectures/didactics are they pre-clinical or clinical or both? Do we need to prepare anything for these prior to starting?

actually i forgot! 😀 but most r clinical subjects...not biochem, pharmaco, RNA........ most r clinic..i would say that.

C.If there is lab/chair work do we need to get any equipment/tools?

They will provide them for you...u have to keep them well though since sometimes we lose it.....we will check the instruments on the first day together and on the last day...if you get 25 pieces, u have to give us back 25 pieces...so keep them well

D.What are the usual/average daily timings?

i think 8-5...

E.Are the 3 months structured differently?

don't understand this qustion

2. Regarding the housing could you tell me something about the following properties?

-Chestnut Hall...over all good, close to school, old, expensive, rats!
-The Hub....i live here...love it!!!!!!
-The Fairfax....good, not good area but ok, opposite the CVS, rats, expensive
-Campus Apartments on 4111 Walnut Street. ..a lot of dental students live there...good, big room, good area, i think this is the best choice..they r moving in June for sure...u can get it that time.
-Campus Apartments 309 south 40th street (Pine Arms apartments). ..don't know this one...is it the new one next to Mc donald?

ok hope that helps............guys please relax, enjoy yourself and see you on March 31...if u have more questions...pls post here and PM to me so everybody will know it too.......i will try to reply asap

I AM A MEAN TA! hahahaha😱

Hello Dr.Fun...U really sound mean 🙂 ... thank you for all the information u have provided us...i kind of know what to expect now... one more question...is the transition from preclinics to clinics smooth for PASS students or do they find hard....i know this varies from person to person but do PASS students find the goin tough in clinics????

Hey Dr Fun 🙂

I just have one question for you..would be grateful if you could answer it 🙂. Has anyone been ACCEPTED at UPENN with a score of 84% but with a GPA of 3.82 and 103 IBT or close.. ..one year clinical residency in home country...and other community work/ Litrature work on dentistry? Should someone with an 84 NBDDE 1 but other good stuff even apply?? or is it just wasting money?
Thanks!..will look forward to your reply! 🙂

hey guys
can i ask u sthng
what was yours part 1 score

hi,
i think UPENN requires scores in the range of 87 & above .
the higher the better.
best luck for applications to all.

Hey...thanks for replying..atleast someone made the effort!

have you heard of anyone being excepted at an 84 part 1 at UPENN but high (3.82) Gpa and average (103) Toefl? one year clinical exp with some other attributes..
I had emailed the SDM email lady..dont remember her name and she said I should apply and only the admission commitee can make that decision...😕
so what do u guys suggest as the inside scoop??? will I just be wasting money? Please give me some info as applications start in ten days!!!
Thanks!

hi,

I think you should try your luck definitely.....Your score is acceptable. Your gpa and toefl score is good. Its a matter of getting a chance for an interview. Once that happens you should know how to crack it. If you excel in your personal interview there is a big chance. My friend just got thru' NYU with a score of 85 (nbde)and 3.7 gpa....was very good in her interview ...i see people with 87 (nbde) still waiting.....
Probability of getting a chance highly depends on how soon you apply ... i.e As soon as they start accepting applications... coz when the committee starts segregating the applications for the interview there might not be too many people with high percentage...there you go...A Chance...
If were you i would take a chance...🙂

All the best..👍
