Could filling out the secondary application from UPENN by hand kill any chances of getting in? How in the world did I make such a mistake. It seems everyone is getting interview invites so if I don't get one by the end of october, I should be waiting for a rejection message soon right?

This really bites.
Did anyone hand-written their secondary appl and got an interview?

I handwrote mine. I am scheduled for Nov. 3. Also, some would consider my handwriting to be particularly ugly.

Hehe, I guess I can't blame it on my hand-writing then.
this still bites though!

:luck:
I highly doubt your handwriting will have anything to do with whether you get an interview or not😛 Don't worry I am sure you will hear good news from them soon😀

I wrote mine by hand last year. Penn is very quick about their application/interview process. Expect to hear within a month after you send in your secondary application.

I am waiting for them... but no news...
It has almost been a month after secondary

I hand wrote mine and to tell you the truth, I didn't put much effort into it because I didn't think I had a chance

I think that's why I handwrote mine too. I think
UPenn is really good at gearing people to specialize and even though I won't know for sure what I want to do after dental school, I'm very interested in specialization because I'm always better at doing one thing.

🙁 hurry UPenn... hurry!!!! you can email me, snail mail me, even call me. i have unlimited minutes! dont worry about it! JUST TALK TO ME!

appropriate fretting time: when you're holding the actual rejection letter.

c'mon, everyone now....*deeep breeeaaaath*

I got my Upenn rejection letter today~🙁

so i guess i should be expecting my rejection letter soon huh lol this sucks

Got my very own Penn rejection letter today. I thought I at least had a shot at an interview! So much for that.

DAT: 21/19/19
cum GPA: 3.32
BCP: 3.29
Undergrad college: Cornell University

Good luck everyone!

how did everyone hear of their rejection from upenn?? snail mail or email??

Hiiiii. So I'm looking at all the posts here now, and a lot of the rejected folks have decent scores and GPAs...I'm have scores a little bit lower, so now I'm afraid... 😛

Does anyone know what UPenn usually looks at more? What do they seem to emphasize when they look at apps. (ie. GPA? DAT? EC's?...)?

i'm with you 👍 like i said earlier, i'm hoping no news is good news for now. they have had my app for awhile and i've heard NOTHING except that it is under review.

i have tons of ECs, research, and the like so hopefully they give me a shot!

jb!

Obviously Penn is a high GPA school... But so many applicants have 3.8s and above, they focus more on EC's as we were told that in order to get an interview at Penn, you have to stand out from others. Either its tons of shadowing, research or clubs.

Cuz I got no news from them for a long time....
and I do not think I have stellar ec's compared to my dat and gpa...
just 200 hours of dental shadowing, researches, couple volunteer, and work.
Anyway hope I get an interview...

But y is it taking so long?... Upenn don't give much interviews?

Hmm, now I'm wondering if I had plenty of extracurricular activities, and experiences and just low GPA and low DAT's, would I even be considered. Would admissions look past the "main factors", such as the scores and grades...OR look at the EC's and experiences of those with the high GPA/high DAT's only? 😳 Yiiiiiiiiiiikes!

I can't believe some people are getting rejected with such high scores....I feel pretty lucky to have been invited to interview. I'm sure all of you with 20+ won't have trouble getting into all other schools, so I wouldnt worry too much. Good luck :luck:

which college did u attend?
u got freakin hell a lot of interview...

I read the first three thins you guys wrote and started luaghing uncontrollably.

SETTLE THE ____ DOWN!!!!

Why the hell are you worried about your handwriting? Take a chill pill!

P.S. You don't want to pay the price of UPENNS tuition anyhow. Temple takes all the good patients too. I would say go to a sweet school like one close to the beach.

Right, you would NEVER hand-write your application. Always type the darn thing out. 🙂

And don't worry blue moon. Just because you haven't heard from Penn doesn't mean you're rejected. Now if you've received a letter from Penn stating that you're not accepted, then that's a different story.

Try to be and think positive, as I'm trying to be that way after another d-school said that I'm denied according to the AADSAS website.

it's disheartening when a school doesn't want you... twice.

will upenn reject you only after you sent in the secondary?

Would it be bad to send a resume/overview with the secondary application, if I am late in the application cycle?

Mask

i typed my secondary but i guess it doesn't help. got my rejection today. on the bright side, they're really good at letting you down easy. i don't feel that bad right now but i'm sure it will sink in later.

!!!! got an interview today!!! I called yesturday and asked if my application is complete and today got the interview...sooooo happy!!!!

So I just got my UPENN rejection. I am wondering if they personalize it to different people because first off, it was actually signed in ink by the director of admissions, 2nd, they indicated that the admissions committee was impressed by my credentials, 3rd, they said that my future achievements can prove how they were "shortsighted" in making their decision. It was a very sincere, and kind rejection letter. Just wondering if they said the same to others. I did not want to exactly quote what they said because of how thoughtful it was, but did anyone get this exact type of rejection from them?

hey fajita

i got the same story here so it doesn't look like it

Everyone gets the same letter.. actually when i was reading it i remember seeing a contradiction somewhere (something about how they were impressed with my gpa and other credentials.. and somewhere down the line that they were looking for impressive gpas and other credentials) - i don't have my rejection on me so i don't quite remember what it said.

Penn is all about the GPA you guys. I cant believe all this time on SDN hasnt told you that by now. If you have a super GPA, no matter where it came from, and at least semi-decent DATs......you will hear from Penn. Even if you went to an IVY league undergrad, if you have a 3.2 or 3.3, they dont want that "messing up" their high avg. By looking at this thread, a lot of you guys have high DATs with not such high GPAs. If you REALLY want to go to an IVY dental school, I am SURE you will have a great shot at Columbia...and pretty much everywhere else for that matter.

But their average is actually lower than of other schools. PreDents lists Penn's GPA at 3.57. That average seems pretty low to me, seeing as how people lower than that should be getting in.

Hey I got an invitation for Penn's interview yesterday, when is your interview scheduled for? is it before Dec?
