I'm torn between choosing UPENN or UF. I'm from Florida so UF is very cheap for me. The thing that makes its tough is that I have received a half tuition scholarship for UPENN. UF is still some 20 thousand less. People what do you think?!

Wow that's great that you got that scholarship at UPENN. Im a gator and I've been in Gville for 4 yrs doing my undergrad. I like it here but not enough to stay another 4 yrs

Both schools are great. If i was in your situation I would choose UPENN to experience something different from FL. I liked Phily when I visited. Also I think the patient pool at UPENN would be greater than at UF. Gville is a small town and a lot of the patients live far from here so you'll have plenty of canceled appointments , I saw it happen very often.

There you go! Hope that helps make up your mind! ;)

I think you should factor in living expenses. How much cheaper would it be to live in Gainsville vs Philadelphia?

I personally thought Philadelphia was nasty and very unclean feeling.

Not true. Down town Philly is pretty nice, but you'll pay an arm and a leg for it, and you end up being pretty far from the school. The closer to Penn you get, it gets ghettoer, but its not as bad as Temple.

OP: Maybe family and other things would favor you to stay in Fl? Do you plan on practiving in Florida or the Northeast? Either one you pick, its a great choice. I would pick UF because of the tuition, reputation and of course weather and football.

I believe you are talking about a relatively small amount of savings. I would recommend you attend the program you feel most comfortable with. Either program will give you the DMD/DDS, but you are the one that has to spend the next four years there. Both schools exist because they produce a graduating class of dentists annually... Every school will have its pros and cons... just go where you feel happiest.

Another thing to consider is vibe from the students. I interviewed at Penn and Fl and Penn had what could be taken as a competitive atmosphere. I have heard it depends on your class but it definatly seems like it gets somewhat cliquey and less like a big family. I think this is just due to the fact of the quality of students there and everyone just wanting to be the best. At Fl...since its a state school...people of all sorts attend so im sure there are your gunners but i think the vibe of the students is a little bit more conducive to success...at least for me
