upenn waiting

first of , i want to celebrate the acceptance of forum members.
congratulation guys . ..

um let me introduce myself. maybe i have been lurking around in this forum for quite a long time.finally i appeared in this forum.


i interviewed in UPenn PASS on last sep 10.
recently i am the man on the waiting list.

last year i could only apply only for one school and now i am very sorry i may not be able to get there.
i madly wanted to join the program.

i think the chance for the wainting list is very slim.

so i want to share our feeling and current situation among the people who are on the wating list of UPenn.
i think it can be best we notice each other in case we get surprise calling from Dr.Lopez.

um let me open my stat.
my part 1:95 part 2:90 toefl:263 gpa:3.5
no ms or specialty experience
ucsf externship experience in my senior year


if you have any advice for me and us, please do not hesitate .

Hi solafide,
First of all congratulations on your great score..
Did you apply to only U Penn? WIth your scores you will easily get into Tufts, BU.... I think
However, you never know you may get lucky and get accepted in UPenn as you are in the waiting list. Best of luck!

Hi,
I think solafide 74 has very good chances of getting in to the program as sue to the very good scores and resume. Even i am under waiting list in Upenn and they seem to let us know in the month of march. I hope i will get there as i am pretty much interested in Upenn.

Your encouragements inspired me very much.

As i said, Penn was the only school i could apply.
I heard Penn support the students who want further study after graduation. So i chose Penn without any doubt.

I am not in the states now. And it is the first time to apply for the Pass program. Where do you live in Phily?
My wife lived in there. So i've been there several times.

Just a comment : When Dr.Peter the PASS director at UPENN interviewed me, I told him that I am preparing for part-2 to improve my chances ,he told me that part-2 does not have that wight for their addmissions .

When I asked why???? he told me ,COZ WE PREPARE YOU FOR PART-2 .

Hi friends.

I started this thread not to blow my own horn but to open my exact conditon so as to find friends who are in the same situation.

Penn wanted to place the person who suit their place and i was not the man of them. Like Sam said, i did not added my part 2 score in the application resume. Because they did not want.
But my score report from ADA included my part 2 score automatically.
Dr.Lopez asked me about part 2 score also and she wrote down it on the paper.

Hey friends, there must be many aspects to see from the applicants.
Just my finger crossed.

Let me explain why i only applied just at Penn.
I am in the active army duty now in my country.
To go outside frequently is not easy task to me.
That is the reason i could not apply other schools.
I am going to finish my contract in the end of this march.
If i fail to get into the PASS, i will have the chance to apply other great schools like you guys did.
You guys have luck i could not have.

Thanks to hear my grumble.

PS labelle keep in touch from now on with friens who is waiting.
We are in the same boat.
Cheer up each other until the end of their selection process or even later.
Um i did my oral surgery externship in my senior year
Of course i din not have a chance to practice by myself.
But it was great to see the US medical environment.

To Solafied and smiledentist: Thanx for the post and i am eagerly waiting to hear from them. Hope my wish will come true.

To Pink tooth: I was interviewded in the month of november and the interview was pretty ok. The first 2 went very well except the last one , where she is keep on bugging me with some questions like why didnt i have exp in USA even though i told her that i dont have time as i am doing masters here. I think that is the factor for me to be in the waiting list.

i hope i will be in that program.

krishh do u mind telling me whn ur interview date was in nov. r u doing ur masters in some specialization or mph?
yes in upenn the major drawback for me was ,i had no work experience here.though i was observing in a dental clinic here they didnt consider tht.
and also i felt thr was a little bias against girls who get married and come to the us on a dependent visa.
my 2 interviews went well. dr berthold wasnt thr tht day.
so we just had dr naty lopez and 2 other staff interviews

From what I know there is no bias against girls coming on dependent visa......
usually majority of the class is girls and many of them are on dependent visa......as long as the applicant is on a valid visa, it does not matter what type........

And to people on the waiting list, you may get a call even a day before the beginning of the summer program.....so, do not give up!

Dr.Lopez told us the same thing EXACTLY during the interview .Hope this helps.

..... well, maybe thr wasnt any bias , but thts wht i felt thr. not frm all the staff though. every1 was nice and friendly.
i couldnt help getting this feeling especially during my interview. it was as if ..hey u havent taken any effort at all towards coming to this country and studying here, except mayb getting married to a guy who happens to be working here.
well this was the only thing i didnt like in upenn, but its an amazing school. mayb it was just a isolated case.
in fact 2 of my interviewers were very friendly and seemed really interested in my sop and my presentations in various seminars back home.
i would have loved to study thr but i didnt get through.
i wish all u guys get accepted thr , all the best, poeple who have already got in u guys deserved it.

Hey everyone!

Got accepted at Penn yesterday.. Im still in a state of shock cos I was mentally prepared to join BU.. and now i have my work cut out for me this month, as I don't live in the US and don't have a visa and the term starts in April.

I was interviewed on Jan 22nd.

One very very import thing regarding your F-1 VISA that you have to take care of ASAP is to arrange for a" bank statment of 70K" .If you decided to swich from BU to UPENN, you have to take care of this issue befor anything else .

They do not call befor the FEDEX ,and in my acceptence letter they
wrote "If you decided not to join the program,please notify us promptly by writting " , but they did not specify a deadline for that .
