On the waitlist-Tier 1. Shall we make a list?
Sent via email from my student interviewer after I told her of my status:
Ugh! I can't believe they did that to do you! Dirty rats! I couldn't tell you before, but you were rated as a 10+/10 by the admissions committee- I sat in the group that reviewed your file. I assure you this was pure politics and nothing to do with your qualifications and Penn's interest in you (they try to get a "mix" in the class from varying backgrounds, etc, and it ends up random at the end, at least to me). Please don't think it was anything personal against you!
[/QB]••••I have a friend on the ADCOM who explained it to me like this...
They had more students with 10/10 scores than they had spots available. Now imagine 20 of them being from one school let's pick Berkeley...
20 Berkeley students get 10/10 have good recs, and have good MCAT scores. They want a diverse class so they're not going to accept all 20 from Berkeley. So what they do is compare the Berkeleys side by side against each other and pick a few of them. (This next part was unclear..I believe they do this with all of the UCs and then compare them side by side scores, extras etc.)...
Some get accepted, some are waitlisted, and some are denied. Anyways that's the gist of their system.
I'm surprised that your student interviewer volunteered all of that information. It could have gotten him in hot water...
