Uploading photos to secondary applications

I pretty much have only seen people talking about getting passport-type photos... But I am planning on just uploading a selfie of me at work in which I am smiling. Looks friendly and recognizable. Also, 330 kb.

Any reason not to do it? There is nothing professional about it, and even quality may be lacking. But I don't think they want everyone to go out of their way to upload a photo..

Good luck. You might be regretting this selfie next June. It probably takes 30 min & < $20 to get a professional headshot. You're applying to medical school, not a summer internship at Facebook.

From what I heard about the post-interview adcom meetings at my school they put my picture that I sent in up on the projector while they were discussing me. My picture was a selfie wearing a shirt and tie in my own house, good enough to get me in after being blasted on a projector for the adcom panel to see and on to M2 a year later now I guess.

Just get a darn passport photo. If you do it at FedEx they'll keep clicking until you like the pic. It's always well lit. Just wear something business casual on top.

Think of how many people apply to medical school each year in the US, and then you expect them each to pay $20 for a photo? That's gonna drive up the cost of healthcare!!! @Smiths11

I took my own photo at home with my phone and made sure it was well lit. It took something like 10 minutes to throw on my suit jacket, shirt, and tie. I'd suggest going that route and taking a picture meant specifically for your application.

I just took mine in front of a white background at home. It looked like a passport photo. I would do something like that because many schools project your picture on a screen (one place even projected my picture during interviews...everyone laughed at the guy that used a cap & gown picture lol) and some schools use that picture for your school ID.

Don't do it. Recommend what @osckey did. It's really not that hard. Just an extra 10 minutes can go a long way man.

Trust me, after being on the interview trail and schools sometimes showing photos of fellow interviewees, you'll stand out as the unprofessional one. Not good. Most will have photos in their suits.
