in aadsas they ask if a course is upper or lower division. why?? do upper division courses grades worth more??

From what I understand, in my school organic chemistry, general chemistry, general biology, physics, etc..are lower division courses.
Upper division courses included Genetics, Immunology, Biochemistry, Animal Physiology..etc...everything that is 3000 Level and up (at least in my school )...ex Biochemistry=BCH 4054=Upper Division course...so I don't think they are worth more..it just defines probably how hard the course might be or something..I guess.

They do?

genetics at rutgers is 380... orgo is 307/308...... so genetics is therefore harder than orgo? i don't think that that system makes much sense

numbers just indicate the relative level of the course (for example 100 level is generally freshman course, 400 level senior level course, and 500+ grad school level) but after the level, the rest of the numerical designation doesn't really mean much (other than those 101 courses, which are meant to be like the big intro courses). Course number is just a way for departments to organize their curriculum (at least in my school). For example, in my major, students are required to take a certain number of 200+ level course, and a certain number of 450+ level courses. Departments in my school also tend to group a sequence of courses in numerical continuity (for example, freshman engineering math is 191 and 192, and sophomore is 293, 294) a course that's designated 250 isn't necessary harder than a course designated 220.

upper division courses do not "worth" more. however, it's good to show that your overall GPA in upper division courses are higher than lower division courses as this shows that you have made improvements during your college career.
