I am a biology major so I will be taking a whole bunch of upper division science courses along with pre-reqs. I noticed, under the "Premedical Preparation" program at my university, I am required to take "Structure and Development of Vertebrates", which is basically Zoology.

Should I even bother with this course? I don't need it to graduate; just for this silly premed program. It's 5 credit hour and I've heard it's a GPA killer.

I think he means that the zoology course is recommended for pre-med students, but not required for his major.

Do you have to do the premed prep thing to get a committee letter or something? Or is it just meaningless brownie points to do it instead of a normal Bio major?

Meaningless brownie points. Also, I do not believe we have a premed committee. I am on the exec board of our pre-health professions club and our faculty sponsor is the premed adviser; I could just wait till graduation to drop the "Premedical Preparation" thing and get the letter out of her before then when I apply late Junior year.

well you better take it if it is required ?
Not required for my major. It's required for the "Premedical Preparation" designation on my degree, which, in essence, is brownie points and nothing more.

Correct.

Take it only if you're interested in it.
