I'm a non-science major, and I think I may be in a bit of a pickle.

By next year, I will have taken bio 1/2, chem 1/2, orgo 1/2, and algebra based physics 1/2, as well as pre-calc and calc 1. I'm planning to take a handful of upper-level courses so that I'm not at a huge disadvantage to science majors.

I was planning to take biochem (chem department) and cell structure and function in the fall, then microbio in the spring. BUT, I have run into a big problem. Apparently calculus based physics is required for cell structure and function, and I have not taken calculus 2 to take that physics. Which then creates another problem, because I cannot take microbiology without cell structure. I can't even take mammalian physiology without taking calculus based physics, apparently. However, I've read through the syllabus for cell structure and physiology and the professors just state "physics"- not specifying which level. So perhaps I have a chance to get the co/pre-req waived?

I could take histology and mammalian anatomy. However, I've read mixed things about taking anatomy. In this lab, we dissect a cat so I'm not sure how much it would help me in d school. They also offer Human Anatomy & Physiology I/II in the kinesiology department, but I don't think that's what I want either?

I'm pulling my hair out here. Any advice? Also, I remember seeing someone post an excel doc of required classes specific to each school, but I can't seem to find it again.

Thank you in advance.

This may be a last resort option, but look into taking biochem at another university with different prereq requirements. I know there will be issues with credit transfers and other things but it is something to consider. As for anatomy I think you would benefit from taking it. I know the dental school I want to attend anatomy is one of the first courses. If others are the same you would have previous experience even if it is a cat. I think if you meet the required biology prereq the other bio classes you take won't matter. They basically won't you to take a lot of bio even if it have a much relevance to the material in dental school. Taking undergrad histology would be helpful because you will like have a histology class in dental school.

Those sound like some ridiculous requirements, speak to the dept/professor/advisor and see if they can help you out.

Where do you plan on applying? Have you looked at any of those schools requirements? You likely don't need to take all of those classes, but definitely take Biochemistry.

Second with above poster. Ridiculous requirements, unless it's very bio-physics heavy.

Thank you for your input, everyone.

akw921: Biochem from the chemistry department is one that I can actually take. Sorry, I know my post was confusing. I think I'll probably take anatomy and definitely histo then.

When I first looked at the prereqs I thought it sounded ridiculous too. Then I realized how many classes I'd get blocked out of and I panicked a bit and made this thread, haha. I'll try emailing the professors first, I don't usually have luck going to the advisors..

But isn't that too much science courses?
