I am hoping to sign up for some sort of upper level bio/chem classes today at a local college. I work f/t 9-5 and found some good upper level lectures to take after work, specifically physical chem. Unfortunately, the lab component for pchem is during work ours/not available after work. Should I just take the lecture without the lab? They are separate classes, so it shouldn't really be a problem as far as passing the lecture, right? I'm taking these classes as a slight gpa boost/insruance in case I don't get in this round. Would med schools frown on taking the lecture w/o the lab? Would doing this not even help my app next time around?

Any advice would be appreciated since my registration slot is later today. Thanks!

Med schools aren't going to care. The only labs you have to take are for the prereqs; pchem isn't a prereq. (note that prereqs vary by school, but I've never seen pchem as a prereq)

Your new school might care though. Ask somebody there about not taking the lab with the lecture. If the two are integrated and lecture exams will include material from lab, you'd be in trouble. Otherwise, just go get an A.

Also look at math & stats classes.

Best of luck to you.

It seems that I am fine taking the lecture in the college without the lab. As far as stats, should I try to take higher level stats classes? I've never taken stats before. will an intro level stat class help med school apps at all?

Stat for Biology if it is available. I had to take Engineer-stat for my major, and honestly it was a lot more complicated than I'd find practical if I were a pure Bio major. And I don't even really use it.

Thanks for all the replies.

My only real options are Elementary Probability and Statiscis, a 100 level class, or Probability Theory, a 300 level class. The description for the second is:
Combinatorics, distribution theory for discrete and
continuous random variables, central limit theorems.

Any advice? It seems like the second is too high level/I won't know what I'm doing. The first is probably too easy. Would the 100 level class help with apps at all?
