should i mention an upward trend in my personal statement? or would the adcoms notice it on the transcript anyway?

btw, i don't have a good reason for those bad grades...i was just lazy my first two years. then i started getting serious, and got nothing but A's for the past 5 quarters.

I think it is always good to put it in and explain why you got better grades and how that can be linked to your success in dental school. I suggest not putting "why you had bad grades" and focus on how you improved yourself.

It would be a good idea to emphasize your strengths, which includes an upward trend (if it's with a respectable workload of science classes). However, I would relate what you did to make it happen to how it may help you to be successful dental student.

I don't think they spend a lot of time to take a careful look at an upward trend of each applicant's GPA, so I would mention how you could improve it.

Yes, definitely give it a brief mention. As more and more people are applying schools aren't able to give enough attention to your grades to look for trends. I realized this when talking to them in my interviews.

thanks camshaft! yea, i was thinking they wouldn't be looking at our transcripts that carefully but it's good to hear from someone who already went through interviews.
