Urgent advice about HMOs

Hi!
I am a foreign student, and was just wondering how the issues concerning HMOs affect dentists in this country.
I do not understand how everything works out, and what exactly do HMOs cover.
Please clarify this topic. I read some articles about HMOs, but all of them only related to medical doctors.
