Hi everyone! I'm an upcoming sophomore considering PA school and have a few questions.

1. How competitive is it to get into PA school after undergrad if I work as a scribe (or similar) for 2 years gaining my patient contact hours?
2. Is it simple to switch specialties in PA...for example would it be feasible to work as an Urgent Care PA for 2 years and then switch over to Cardiothoracic surgery??
3. What is the lifestyle/hours for an urgent care and/or a surgery PA?
4. Does my major matter in undergrad?

Thanks so much!

1.scribe is very low tier experience and not universally accepted by programs. better to do something like medical asst., emt, cna, etc which is good for every program.
2. getting harder to switch every yr
3. urgent care typically 35-50 hrs/week, surgery typically 55-70 hrs/week
4. no, just get the prereqs done
