Urgent-Pattern folding

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't know if this helps with your question but this is how I do pattern folding.

I look at the answers and determine where they are possible. On questions where it's what shape the patern forms, I look at the face sizes.

On questions where it's shadings and patterns, I look at if a black face can only line up with a white face a certain way, I make sure that's possible in my answer selections. I'll probably make a youtube video when I'm done with my DAT if I score well.

I found pattern folding inside the screen much quicker to get to right answer....also turning it in your head after you fold helps too. I usually eliminated the choices that are not possible much easier with the shaded figures than the ones with lines...also practice with dots and see which directions they will be facing once folded...for example if two, three, four dots are the adjacent sides then you have worry about only 2, and 3 four will always look the same ....same with 5 and 1 but for 6 try to look if after folding the vertical side is adjacent or horizontal one...it's always helpful to eliminate first and then fold and then if it does not work then go back to eliminated choices....it sound a lot of work but trust me just eyeballing will help you to eliminate 2 out of four choices....I was most worried about this section...but found it easier than key holes and angle ranking on my real DAT.

For me personally, I would get more answers correct if I folded away from the screen. I actually prefered folding towards the screen, but that method did not work well for me.

I started to get more pattern folding questions correct when I learned how to eliminate. I would look at each answer to see if they were even possible by isolating two sides. I would pick two sides to investigate in one of the answers and then go back to the unfolded pattern and only fold those two sides in my head. I tried to avoid folding the entire pattern in my head before I looked at the answers. The EXTREMELY challenging pattern folding Q's will require you to visualize the 3D image, but there aren't to many of those. I scored a 24 on the PAT, but I practiced a lot for this section.

I could be wrong but I thought what you see is the outside of the shape. So you need to fold away from you... That's how I always did it and I scored well on PAT

If you're using on Crack DAT you could be in for a rude awakening on the real deal. I relied only on Crack and pattern folding on my version was impossible. I could only eliminate 1 wrong answer and the folds were very complex. I must have rocked the other sections to get my score of 21.
