I'm still trying to decide between COMP and TUCOM and I feel like I don't have enough info about TUCOM's new curriculum and the whole rotations situation in 3rd and 4th years. I've tried contacting the administration and haven't heard back. Current Touro students, help please??!!!!

You are talking about Touro U NV I take it? This thead may not have been checked because people thought you were talking about Touro CA. I'm surprised the admin hasn't gotten back to you, normally Roger and everyone else there answer back pronto. I think at least some of the information you're looking for can be found on the various other threads here on SDN that deal with Touro NV. You can message any of the 2nd years on those threads too and im sure they'll get back to you as well.

Best of luck!

Hey Travis,

I think the OP is talking about Touro MI since they are talking about moving to a "vertical" curriculum. You can ask Dr. Miller about that. Just an FYI.

This is a reply from an OMS I at Tucom-Mi

"...on wednesday, there is going to be a meeting about the curriculum changes to come for your class next year. How about we revisit this question then. Just remind me.
As for rotations, the 2nd years just had their lottery. It seems like typically 90% of people who want to stay in Bay Area get to, but for them it was only around 80% due to some changes: St Lukes in sf became a year long site and also decreased spots. But for those who wanted to stay in Bay Area, but have to go away for their core 6 months, will get to come back for the rest of the year. I think for 4th year, you can choose to go anywhere. Anyways, it's always lottery based and your class can vote on exemptions: like having kids, being married, etc for priority points. It'll just depend on the makeup for your classmates and what happens that year. Rotation sites are always changing year to year. If you want more information, the person in charge is Dr. Towne, but she's is insanely busy."

I'll let you guys know if I find anything else out.

Stay tune boys and girls...

I thought I'd add on to this info. bulletin. This is a reply from one of the admin. ppl. It looks like they're still figuring out the curriculum. On a good note most of those who want to stay in the bay area can 👍 👍

" 1. The faculty are in the middle of re-designing the curriculum to a "Vertical Curriculum" format. As I understand it, our current system is a "Horizontal Curriculum", meaning that normal systems information is taught during the first year, and pathology of the systems (diseases, treatments, etc.) is taught during the second year. The new curriculum would incorporate both normal and pathology of each system at the same time, which theoretically allows more time for clinical experiences, independent study, and time to study for boards. It is not yet clear whether or not the new format will be implemented for the Class of 2010 or if it will be delayed to the Class of 2011. Once a decision is made, it will most likely be posted on the website. (I know, I know, the website currently stinks. We are, however, in the midst of a complete overhaul of the website which should be rolled out in the next couple of months).

2. Rotations are done on a lottery basis with each class deciding whether or not to provide exemptions for those who have children, spouses with jobs, etc. Generally speaking, there are enough spots in the Bay Area to accommodate almost all of those who wish to remain in the area, with the remainder going either to Southern California or through the States. I do not know the specific number or location of the core sites, but you may contact Ms. Sappho Faires ([email protected]) to obtain that information."

Hopes this helps anyone interested 😀

I hope the new curriculum will be for the class of 2010. I know that historically the "horizontal cirriculum" has been the standard for medical schools, but these changes just make more sense to me. Any thoughts from current students... which would you prefer if you had a choice?
