How much is the salary of a urologist, especially, compared to other surgeons? Just curious cuz all the urologists I know drive old beat up cars

they make more then general surgeons and work relatively good hours for a surgical field.

I started private practice in Urology last summer (8/03). I trained in both DC and NY, and what I found is that the starting salary in Eastern metropolitan areas (including Boston - I have a good friend who is a Urologist there) is in the range of $100,000 - $150,000.

More importantly, the final salary (i.e. 5 years into practice) that you can make as a Urologist in these areas can range anywhere from $250,000 to > $600,000.

Granted the job was in rural montana (or somewhere like that), but he said he gets lots of offers >$500,000 in rural areas. In larger metro areas you start out closer to $150,000.

edit: oops, i'm not snapdad, but don't feel like logging in myself.

You have to wonder if that wasn't just a tactic to get applicants they like to go to their program! It sounds sort of fishy, the fact that he just happens to get an 800k offer during your interview day 🙂

800k seems like alot. Even for a place like rural Montana.

Average starting salary in the midwest is >200k.

800K is definitely a possibility. Especially in a place like Montana. You would really have to break your back though.
