US Atlantic Bridge Program 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm applying to the 5 year program which doesn't require the MCAT, but I am studying for the MCAT now with intentions to take it in mid-May if I don't get into an Irish school.

March the 16th to the 23rd is my spring break, and I would rather spend that time studying for the two classes I'm currently taking than studying for the MCAT. Do you think it would be a bad idea to ask Atlantic Bridge just before spring break if it would be possible to receive my acceptance/rejections letters via email so I could focus my studies during break in the most productive way possible as I will not be taking the MCAT if accepted to an Irish school?

I think you can ask. Note that it could possibly change the decision, but most likely not.

Talk to ABP. I find them to be very approachable and understanding.

Has/will ethical questions be asked during the RCSI interview?

Has/will ethical questions be asked during the RCSI interview?

For 6 year program interviews: no in general, may be lightly as they relate to your ec's, volunteer history, etc.
For the 4 year program interviews: absolutely yes.

What questions were asked during the RCSI interview?

They asked me things such as:
Why do I want to become a doctor
Since when did I want to be a doctor
What my background was (e.g. what my parents do)
Why RCSI over other schools
Why I became interested in my current research topic
What were some questions I had for them

Will you guys keep me updated when you get your RCSI letter? I am on vacation so not close to my mailbox for the next week.

No, according to AB we will get them end of this week/beginning of next for RCSI, and then for the other schools starting at the end of march.

I just got my acceptance letter from NUIG 5yr medical program 🙂 should be getting your acceptance letter soon too! Good luck!

Where do you live? I live in Nevada. Are you in California?

I am from Vancouver, BC. Canada Atlantic Bridge Forum doesn't seem to be active anymore so I posted mine here.. sorry.. 🙁

Hey bexbex Thanks so much for the update, and congrats buddy! the last thing we want to do is pounce on you with a million questions but if you don't mind me asking, did you get the letter in the mail/Fedex? also, did AB notify you before?

Thank you Dredge and Steele! I got my acceptance package via fedex and AB did not give me any notice in advance. 🙂

Congrats! What was your application like if I may ask? Also, could you tell right away it was an acceptance letter?

I'm pretty certain that ABP won't send any bad news via FedEx, so you'll know once you sign for a thick envelop!

I just received an acceptance into RCSI's GEP today. Super thrilled, and here's hoping to hear back from more schools!

Congratulations enes91, & I hope you get other offers from other schools.

By the way, how much is the deposit they wanted you to pay??

And was your credit card charged the delivery fee, so you kinda had a clue??

I hope more people keep posting, it's so hard to be away from my mailbox!
Hang in there Charlotte Haley. When are you coming back? If its gonna take a while, maybe you can let someone check your mailbox for you.

Thanks surgeon! Good luck to you too!

The deposit varies by schools, with RCSI being the most expensive (6,500 euros). The others are in the neighborhood of 4,000 euros I think. I still haven't gotten anything on my credit card statement, so that's not the most reliable indicator in the world.

Haley, I think we have to sign for the package, otherwise FedEx won't hand it over. If you've been away and nobody was home to sign for it, I'm guessing you might end up with a notice of attempted delivery.

Congrats!
I just got an acceptance letter from Cork today too. I heard AB doesn't usually give multiple offers to students, but I'm ok with that as Cork was my top choice. Hope everyone else gets the news they are hoping for this week and soon!

I too just made this account to post and hopefully get to know some of my future med school friends. I was just accepted into NUIG. They want a response by April 2nd, which is a bit early I think but still understandable. I am waiting to hear from Trinity still...

Anyways, Congrats everyone so far and try not to worry!

For those that have heard from NUIG, are you planning on accepting?

And has anyone heard word from Trinity and when they may be giving out first round offers?

Congratulations zbdb47 & aiberick1 you guys made it.

Wish you all the best.

Hi there! Just curious out of the people who have heard back from RCSI and cork- where are you located? US or Canada? And if in the US what state? Trying to gage when mail might arrive to me in FL. Thanks a mill!

Heard back from RCSI, Canadian applicant

I'm pretty sure everyone who has received responses have been Canadian.

Hey everyone!
I've received word from NUIG and I'm from Missouri US. Good luck

I guess my Canadian only theory just went out the window then.

Contrats though!

BTW: What were your stats like?

Hey!

I'm not sure if this question was addressed to me but here are my stats if it helps!

GPA: 3.9
MCAT: Didn't take it
Extra Curricular: Research for around 3 years (3 publications = 2 papers and 1 book chapter) plus a lot of community based work
Volunteer: ~180 hours spread out over 4 different hospitals
Shadowing: ~100 hours
Plus some other stuff but I think these are the most relevant things

That's really impressive! You found out today right? Did FedEx leave a notice on your mailbox or just come to your door? Also when did you graduate?

Hey thanks!
I actually received it yesterday and Fedex just left it at my door. I graduated May 2013. Let me know if I can be of any other help!

Thanks! I choose this week to go on vacation so I'm just trying to stay in the loop haha. That's interesting they just left it at your door I've been hearing different things from different people!

I talked with one of the ABP people (Sorry! Forgot his name. Tim something?) while I was waiting for my turn for the RCSI interview and I was asking him why they didn't use emails instead. He didn't really answer my question, but he did tell me a pretty scary story!

An applicant a few years back had moved house without tell ABP about it, and so they sent her acceptance package to her old address, where a new tenant had signed for the package. The applicant wrote back to ABP in the summer, asking about her status, but ABP could do nothing about it. Since somebody signed for the package and ABP didn't hear back from her within the deadline, they thought that she had passed on the acceptance and gave that offer to someone else!

If you are anxious to know, you can call FedEx and give them your home address. Tell them that you expect a FedEx envelope from Atlantic Bridge in California. FedEx rep would be able to tell you if there was a package in the system or not. When calling FedEx, keep pressing zero to get to talk to a representative.

On a separate note, my understanding is that the first round of offers from RCSI is going out this week and early next week. May be call FedEx and check. Last year RCSI acceptances were sent in waves over a week or so, so do not panic if others get it before you. Please understand that ABP has very small number of employees and packaging 100+ acceptances over and above other work can take few days.

Good luck to all.

No worries. Last year, and over a course of a week, I kept calling FedEx like a maniac three or four times a day until that evening at 6 pm when the rep told me that a package was coming my way. The charge on the visa did not appear until 10 days later, so FedEx was the more accurate way to know.

That makes me feel better. I just called, and they said they didn't have anything in the system for me.

Huh I talked to a representative and they said they couldn't give me any info without a home address, two more days of bliss I guess!

They didn't accept that haha they didn't even let me give it perhaps I didn't phrase my request correctly

They didn't accept that haha

How do you not know your home address?

Edit: Oh. I kind of get it now. Anyway, I just asked them to check to see if it was in the system. They just told me that there were packages scheduled for my apartment complex, but none for me.

Nothing on my end either yet, Im from Atlantic Canada, if that helps.

I think the acceptances were sent to GEP applicants only. Right?!

6/5 year program applicants didn't recieve anything, right?
