USAP RENO

Sevo speaks very highly of the practice.
Did he speak highly of the practice BEFORE it was mednax? or currently?
I believe it WAS Mednax and that's when he previously spoke highly of it. No clue what changes came since USAP became involved.Did he speak highly of the practice BEFORE it was mednax? or currently?
He speaks highly of it currently. I think that working for an amc is no bueno
Definitely could be worse. That stock thing with USAP is a scam. It’s also a usually a scam to start out at a unit based place when you don’t run the schedule and there is no real partnership. No thanks. I’ll take the straight salary.“Hey, Joe Bob! Time to fire up the Canon printer, and print out some more of those “USAP Stock Certificates” for the folks out in Reno!!!!”
OTOH, couldn’t be any worse than MEDNAX, could it???
I’d be interested in the details here, especially if the hospital system agreed or went along with this change. It’d be nice to know if the hospital and group had discussions around taking the group private again.
Might not be bad place to do locums. Reno is kind of fun and great access to Tahoe and the Sierras.

The part that I really don’t like is that we are MD only area but with USAP you can bet they will bring in CRNAs. 😓
Sad to see it so close to home.

Great place to work tho. Interviewed a buddy of mine from Colorado last week. Interview consisted of 4 days of climbing on our MT bikes.
Highly suggest this area for anyone looking for a great outdoor life. Jobs are good as well (despite amc presence)

Probably going to regret responding to this thread...
Don't know how it works in other locations, but here in North TX, it isn't USAP's MO to come in and order changing the staffing model. My particular practice was MD/DO only before and, now 6+ years later, continue to be 100% own cases

Looks like both NAPA and USAP are in the Reno/Carson City area now. Anybody know if South Lake Tahoe is still independent?

But now you give up a percentage to the company

Never said it didn't. Wasn't my decision to merge with USAP. Was only talking about the staffing model

That’s great, and same for my practice. I would guess high quality practices doing big cases often stay MD only. Unfortunately, USAP does like to change up the model sometimes. Happened in Carson city (was MD only), Southern Colorado practice that was taken over last year ( was MD only) and now Reno (they are hiring both CRNAs and Md’s).

Depends where you are talking about. If it’s Barton then yes. If it’s CVMC, we staff that hospital.
I love the outdoors but do you really need to spend 4 days interviewing someone ? Is that standard for practices in that part of the country or was it just a "business" trip ?

I was asking about Barton. I was really tempted to move up there in 1998.

Nah... this guy is a long time friend of mine from a USAP take over in Colorado. He stayed at my house for 5 days and I gave him the full mountain/tahoe tour. The office/hospital stuff took about 6 hours.

that is unbelievably low construction cost for what appears to be a high end home. It would have cost at least 2x in construction alone (excluding land) in my neck of the woods back then.
I would never consider a 4 mill home. But somebody w/ $$ wanted it bad enough.Beautiful home, but no way I’m payin’ 4.5 million bucks to live in Reno!![]()
Time to buy was back in 2010-2012.
Just think at what Tahoe real estate is doing right now. Big Ooof....

Built when the industry was struggling for work. Good time to buy back then. Agreed. Even 10 years ago, there’s no way that house was under $200/SF to build in my area.

Building again on 5 acres. Won’t be cheap.Only problem is, where do you go??

I remember the time, but raw materials alone would have run more than that. It's almost unfathomable to me how it got built for so cheap.
look at the price of lumber
"unfathonable" Really... ??? Lol. You clearly don't know our market now and then.I remember the time, but raw materials alone would have run more than that. It's almost unfathomable to me how it got built for so cheap.
You could buy a lot for 1+ mil back then.. and I mean a lot.
Remember that Nevada got hit the HARDEST during the housing bubble.
And when I say "explosion" of growth... I mean that 100%. One car garage condo's are going for 700k + in certain areas.
The cat is out of the box and people have realized this untapped location.
Our neighbors being in cali, they sell there and come to retire here w/o having to pay taxes. Still get more for their money, but they are definitely jacking up the prices.

Honestly the whole moving from Cali to NV to avoid taxes always seemed inevitable. I'm glad some folks in Reno are making bank off the run up in demand/housing prices.

Agree.
Besides year around activities nestled in the Sierras and around Tahoe the ongoing cost savings of no state income tax will pay huge dividends over the course of a career.

I am simply referring to raw material costs which tend not to drastically vary from location to location. I mean maybe lumber was free, but that is a lot of pricey looking materials for relatively little money.
I know nothing about the real estate market in your neck of the woods now or back then. I know a decent amount about construction now and then.

I think that those looking to make a move should really at least check out Reno.
It is an fantastic place to live for the right person and I think this area will be what Colorado Springs or Denver is 15-20 years from now.
Lots of jobs here. I think Napa offers 100k-140k sign on bonus and I am guessing USAP is similar. Salaries are going up due to demand for anesthesiologists as well as cost of living. I think the trajectory won’t stop as we have amazon, tesla, apple in town. Also large developers are buying up millions of dollars worth of land /100-200 million last year?

No way man. Have you seen the housing prices?!
Nobody likes being part of private equity. But taking the whole picture into account, it’s a great place to be.
