Hello All,
I am going to begin my 2 years ASPID program for FTD's at USC this year, May-2009. I am married and will be living with my husband near USC. I am going to apply for USC housing,(Bel-Air, Regent and Senator buildings). I got a link from the USC dept with links to other housing options near USC. Prices are a bit less(800 compared to 950 for USC housing), would that mean the USC owned buildings would be having some better/cleaner rooms/building? As I looked at the non-USC specifically Nupac housing and they gave a not so good impression from outside.. but the USC housing website gives pictures for the rooms only, which seem good🙂.. but none for outside.. So was wondering if I should go for Nupac/ or non USC owned housing if the rates are cheaper considering they are almost comparable to USC owned housing or should i stick to USC housing ( if they are better than non USC owned housings also considering the diff in rents$$?)

Would like to mention that I want to live as close as possible to the USC as I dont want to drive 🙂 and living few blocks away would give me more freedom to go home for a quick nap/rest when i want 😀 So I am considering housing within 1 mile from the USC. Please give me some suggestions about this... Any help is highly appreciated...👍👍
Thanks again...

Hello again.. can anyone help me on this plz? someone from USC probably, as I am in canada and really have no idea about these things in LA..😱.. so any suggestion is much appreciated 👍

Go with whatever is cheaper. USC housing doesn't have to be better because it's more expensive. A couple of my friends lived in Nupac housing, a couple in Conquest. Both are fine. I looked at the Nupac housing site and it said all of their stuff is on the tram route, which is really important. Since all the apartments are going to be about the same, if you have a choice of apartments, you probably want to pick something closest to the main street. PM if you have questions.

If you have a car, look into living around USC (i.e. koreantown, pasadena) Use google maps and look around for the area names and then look up possible apartment complexes within those areas via the internet or a real estate agent if you have trouble. You can live in downtown los angeles as well and if money isn't too much of an issue, you can live in the Orsini which is very upscale. A car is pretty much needed unless you live in university housing or apartments near usc but those are usually pretty bad

Thanks for replying 🙂
Hamburgersam, right now I am quite sure that I want to live very close to USC and most likely wont be driving. So I cant live in "better/upscale areas" I guess 👎.. but if things change I will look at the areas you suggested..

drpsuedonum..from your posts looks like not much difference in the close to USC housings.. also, I read on USC housing website that internet, fone and tv are free.. 🙂 that would save atleast 75$ bucks.. 😉.. AND FURNISHED.. so I dont have to bring furniture along, thats very helpful.. that brings them close to nupac housing..
What did you mean by living close to main street for tram? I think all the USC housing and nupac housing are in 10 mins walking distance for me.. right? or i am missing soemthing :slap:
I guess I will apply for USC housing and see if I can get something, in meantime will try for others as well..
Another thing .. is it good to be living close to USC? like do we get times off during regular day schedule so that I can go quickly home and do some stuff or rest? is it helpful to be living at walkable distance ?

Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys..

From what I hear, you have to apply for graduate housing ASAP because there aren't that many available. One of my friends got one a few years back when only 8 were available total.

Oh yeah, the internet and all that does add up. You get free internet, local calling (I think 213 and 323 area codes), and cable. USC housing also comes furnished, so that's also another hassle you wont have to worry about.

All of the housing is definitely in walking distance. Some are a a couple blocks closer than the others. It's just nice to have your place be on the tram route so if you have to carry a bunch of stuff or are really tired, you can just hop on and off. As far as being close to the main street, this is sort of personal preference. At night time I'd feel safer if my apartment was closer to the main street. I'm pretty sure you get breaks and stuff, but you might want to try on the dental board for better information about that.
