Hi Perfectdent,
Could you please let us know how about the width of the gingival plan of the box in cl II prep. 1.0 or 1.5 is perfect?
Thanks for your kindness.
Validity

I guess you mean the axial depth of the box,if so it's about 1.3 mm for molars and a little less for premolars.

hi perfectdent,,thanx a lot for all ur help..well i have one small doubt regarding offset and occlusal shoulder,,i thought offset is only for maxillary molars and for mandibular its occlusal shoulder when we r doing 3/4's and mod onlays.....plzzz help

thanx a lot again...

You are absolutely right.

i even want to know if we r asked to make boxes for 3/4,,do we have to make only box or extend it as mod 3/4....

if that is the case just prep box instead of groove but it's still 3/4 crown. it resembles an MOD prep in first look but it is different.(like there is no lingual axial reduction on MOD despite 3/4 crown)

hey perfectdent,

r v allowed to use matrix bands to protect the adjacent teeth in the exam???????

well, for sure you are allowed to use wedges to make the enough separation. and I would suggest start reducing the proximal walls with a very thin knife edge bur and after you get enough room you can switch to your desired bur. NEVER USE HAND INSTRUMENT TO SEPARATE THE TEETH, FACULTIES ARE SO SENSITIVE TO THIS AND ALSO YOU MIGHT BREAK THE TOOTH.

I am a reapplicant to USC. I thought one of the preps last year was 7/8, it was 3/4? For PFM, is shoulder in facial and chamfer in lingual for all teeth, right? Please correct me if I am wrong. And for class II is it always necessary the retentions on the proximal box?

Thanks in advance!!!
Hi
You make me nervous about my Alzheimer! about PFM you are right and about CL II it's always nessacary. I wish you the best this year. see you in the class of 2009.

thanx perfectdent,,,u r doing a gr88 favour on all of us by clearing our doubts,,
I also wanted to ask u if they allow us to carry extra teeth???like if we do a major mistake in the begiinning itself can we change the teeth,,,
coz if we cannot carry extra teeth then whatever i have i can practice on those too😀 ,,,

Thanks again

I mean the width (mesial-distal dimension) of gingival floor of cl ll's box, not its depth (occlusal-gingival dimension).
Anyway, about its depth, I think it depends on the contact point to the adjacent tooth, as long as it has 0.2 or 0.3 clearance. Please help me if I'm wrong.
Thank you so much.

Hi,
Wow, imagine if they would allow applicants to change the teeth.. just in case😴 sweet dreams... it's ok, everybody is in the same situation..

They will mark down all screws of your typodont with nail polish just to make sure you won't change the teeth.....

We were in the same spot. axial depth means mesiodistal width.
but regarding the gingival depth which means occluso gingival width of the box, as you said depends on the contact point and you must have enough clearance, how much? there is contraversy. the philosophy of having clearance is for being accessible to finish and polish amalgam margin on that area, 0.2 mm looks too much conservative... if I were you, I would go for 0.5mm.(the tip of your explorer should pass easily).

As I know, there are some differences between Universities a/b preps. For ex, I have UOP's set of prep sample that is little different from lectures of Dr. Duggan such as grooves in 3/4 cr, boxes and flares in MOD onlay...I think I'd better follow your intructions.
Is it OK if I bring notes a/b prep dimensions to practical exam?
One more thing, Meggan said that all US citizens are exempt from English Language Exam although their TOEFL score is under 250. Is this right for immigrants who have just gotten US citizens?
Thank you very much

All the best to those going for their interviews. Do share your experience later on.

Best wishes
dec

Best of luck to everybody for the interview...
