I don't have the luxury to make this decision yet, but I think the two are a good comparison.

a. Pitt's reputation is better (ranked 20th), its research facilities seem above average, and its surgery dept. (e.g. transplantation) is top notch, if not the best. But Pittsburgh as a city has its drawbacks, which include not having a lot of young people, not having much of a night life, etc.

b. USC is still in the top 50 (ranked 43), and few cities rival the excitement of Los Angeles. USC Med doesn't have much of a campus, however, and the facilities aren't outstanding. But USC just received the biggest private donation in medical school history at $110 million. USC is building a new hospital and a state-of-the-art neurogenetics research building. In other words, USC is on the rise.

Which school would you choose?

What do you mean the facilities at USC aren't great?

I thought it was awesome! Can you say "HANDS ON!"
damn...they are def on the rise.
But Pitt is also on the rise.

The main things that suck so much about USC is that they give no grants...no real campus feel to it...and you gotta live far away AND have a car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Yea, one thing that hurts USC med is that its nowhere near the USC undergrad campus. So forget about having good places to eat (only thing there is a Burger King) and nice gyms.

Scooby, I agree, the facilities aren't bad at all. In fact, did you see the really really nice hospital they have? Not LA County, but the one with the Starbucks in the front (which I thought was ridiculous but amusing)? That hospital is extremely nice, it's almost a resort.
