hey guys,

i wondered if usc has sent any info about roommates, orientation, etc. etc.
i called the office and they said that they sent letters every 2 wks. it's been 2 wks.

Have you been accepted or are you just trying to prepare yourself if you do?

Congratulations! Were you pulled off the waitlist? If so, when? I'm still waiting

yeah, they have some listings, but not much. do you need anything in particular?

I droped by USC to pick up packet #1 but they should be sending it to you soon. Here's some dates you might already be aware of: August 7th: Big sib program bbq, August 12th: first day/ orientation.

Kager: if you are interested in USC waitlist movement, you can see it on the OFFICIAL waitlist movement thread. Good luck to you and keep hope for the Dr. Quinn phone call.

hi everyone

congrats to those who got in. i'll prob be seeing you guys there in the future =)

Wow. Suddenly the SC SDNers are coming out of the woodwork. For a while there I was getting lonely with it being just me and Jeff. Superdup, I can tell you a lot of information if you want it. Just PM me any questions.

jalbrecht

where did u go to undergrad? and where do u plan to live next year?

I went to UCLA for undergrad and right now I am planning on trying to live in Monnerey Hills, a place 3 miles north of SC and where a lot of the students apparently live.

hehe, hey jal, my friend said that you don't have to cook. you can head up to montery hills and eat there everyday since the food is so cheap. is that true??? haha

Monnerrey hills doesn't have any restarants in it. Maybe your friend might be talking about menerray Park. There is a hamberger place that I went to that is right outside of the hills, but it wasn't very good. I'll prolly end up cooking there for the first time in ages.

jalbrekt said that they don't have a particular roommate list. can anyone tell me how i can go about finding a roommate if the school won't provide a list? also, i wondered if i could get the some names of apartment complexes and #'s that i can call. thanx a lot. i'm getting a lot of pressure from my family in finding a place to live.

A lot of ppl do live in monterey hills TRUE

but south pas, which is only about 5 min farther drive, is a nice area. altho MH is safe cuz its on the hills, once u drive down, u r like straight out in the heart of el sereno (lotsa mexican gangsta, lowriders, u get the idea)

SP on the other hand is a pretty nice area, safe, and named "TREE CITY USA" by some tree foundation.

to all those who got in to USC:

CONGRATS!!!

Can you help a fellow pre-med out?
I am actually applying for 2003...
and I was wondering...
what are the ave #'s for USC? mcat and gpa?
do they give preference to cali residents?
i'm a NJ resident, and i am wondering if i should apply to USC...
also... do they give any financial aid in grants?
tuition is pretty steap.. huh? 34000??

well again CONGRATS!!
thanks in advance for your replies!

Call and ask for Gena at Student Affairs. She runs a list of those looking for rooms to rent, roomates, etc. You can also post on the list that you are looking for a roomate, so somebody can find you.

eunice•••••They give huge preference toi west coast people. I didn't meet a single person from east of Arizona on second look weekend, so unless you have ties to USC, I wouldn't bother.

USC booyeah!!!

I'm doing this here because I'm afraid that nobody will congratulate me if I start a new thread. 🙁 🙄

Anyway, to those who got off the waitlist after getting a call from Dr. Quinn, how long after the call did you actually get the first letter confirming the acceptance? Do I really have to wait 2 weeks?

To everybody who has posted advice regarding USC... thanks, guys and gals (unfortunately, it seems to be all guys... 😡 ). I appreciate it.

 That's awesome, WaitingImpatiently! Congrats. I can't wait for my phone call.
Dr. Quinn, where are you? 🙄

Congrats waiting Imp. For a while there I thaught you were heading off to OSU. Looks like everybody on the USC waitlist got off (no pun intended).

On a side note, I'm looking for a roommate. Any off you guys (or girls. It just seems like you are all guys) interested?? I'm neat, clean, a good studier, and know lots of hot girls, 2 of whome are going to USC Pharmacy, so therefore I can gauruntee decent girls stopping bye. I'd be willing to share my vast knowledge of biochemistry and Tivo. My only thing is that I that I want to live in Monnerrey hills and I know the building that I would love to live in. (I've been doing a lot of research. Monnerey hills is far and away the best place to live) PM me if interested.

TROJAN PRIDE!!!!!!

YEEEEAAAAA YYAAAAAAAYYY!

hope all yall have a good time. anyone of those ppl listed from the bac/md program? come-on don't be shy yall

go Dr. Q. the real one

I'm not, not that I wouldn't like to be. Though actually I was talking with some of the USC med students and apparently you guys have a somewhat bad rep over on the HSC - I'm sorry but some of you bacc/md's are total slackers. Though I guess that's the reward for getting in early, huh?

rapid decomp,

I agree that some r slackers. but i ain't! i kept over a 3.9 and got a 40 on my cats, and did a lot of extracurrics. some were struggling to keep the 3.3. i don't know how well they do after they get to the med school tho. i can see y there'd be some bitterness towards us baccs.

anyway TROJAN PRIDE!

so where u going to med school rapidD? r u in the cycle this yr like me?

anyone know the ethnic breakdown of a typical class??

yipes, username n password =/

i don't think i know mine.

I PMed you teh password.

dr. kev, no I didn't mean you in particular - I'm sure with awesome stats like that you would have no problem getting in other places. But I think the bitterness just comes from the fact that those bacc/mds who have decided not to apply out but to stay at SC sometimes (NOT always) do the bare minimum to get by - then they really ARE unprepared for med school. They're in classes side by side with classmates who really worked hard to get where they are - I can see why it wouldn't seem fair to them.
But anyway yeah I am applying this year, one more year at SC and then who knows where I'll end up!

whoa! so u r at SC right now? r u an undergrad?

(btw i totally agree w/ u. i also am sometimes disappointed by classmates who "rest on their laurels" as one advisor puts it)

Most of the B/MDers I know work their asses off. As a group they don't work any less hard than any other group of pre-meds do. Case in point, the past 3 or 4 valedictorians at USC undergrad have been B/MD students. In some years, more people got into UCSF, for example, from the B/MD program than from entire undergrad schools such as Hopkins!

There's been a lot of talk that the B/MD program is going to be terminated. But that's all it is...a bunch of talk. I think the med school wants to get rid of it because some B/MDers at the school have done poorly. The undergrad wants to keep it because by and large B/MD students help raise the bar of academics at the school.

While some B/MD students haven't done well at Keck, the same can be said of many other students who were accepted through the normal pre-med track. Also, unlike when I applied, you gotta be a genius to get into USC's B/MD program these days! So most of these students are already capable of doing well anywhere.

that's not true lizard king. I think the bac/md ur yr is MUCH MUCH stronger than the bac/md class my yr or the yr below me. (i can't say for the other younger yrs)

u totally spot on bout the fact that the underg wants to keep it b/c it attracts "good students" to SC. but u do have to admit, a lot of bac/mds don't work that hard. well maybe not so much in ur yr, but def in my yr...

I may be joining you guys in the fall as I got the totally unexpected call from Dr. Quinn today! I also just got accepted at my state school (Arizona) and am not sure at all what I'm going to do yet. It would be hard to leave my family behind in Arizona and turn down in-state tuition, but it would also be tough to turn down the CA weather and clinical opportunities at USC (plus everyone on this thread seems really nice and cool!). I'm going to have to think about it for a few more days, but any advice is much appreciated. I'll keep everyone posted🙂

WHOA!!! congrats annab

how random that we were just talking bout this 2 or 3 days ago and then it actually happens! hmmmmm i think the powers that be might be lurking on these boards.

well u know what i'll say. GO TO SC! u'll have a lot more fun, experience something new and different. the clinical training u'll get there will be very good.

CONGRATS on getting into SC!

I agree with Dr. Kevin... GO TO USC!!!

My brother goes to SC med... and he loves it there! The training and patient exposure at USC is something that cannot be matched at many other medical schools.
