Useful gift before dental school starts?

Mom wants to buy me something for $1000 (no cash). I don't need a laptop because old one opens ppts just fine. Don't need tablet/iPad.

Any ideas for something that would be useful for dental school?

A bike if you live close enough to bike to school, apparel (dress clothes), messenger bag/ back pack for your books/laptop. Perhaps you need furnishings for your new apartment (bed, desk, lights, tv etc), flight credit (vacations, trips from home to school, etc)

I like that idea...no need splurging 4 something i don't need right now...ill prolly get loupes down the line or something.

I thought about the iPad/tablet but I would have absolutely no use for it...I already own a huge (4.5inch) smartphone and don't need another toy.

Agreed. If you plan on being GP invest early in good Loupes (w/ high mag) and a head light...it will make your life so much easier when you get to clinic

You'll likely need a camera while in private practice. Don't worry about it now.

I know that I'm going to go all-out on my loupes, so I vote for that option.
